I use to have a VW Rabbit car I got it for free fixed the glow plugs and it ran good I averaged a little over 50 mpg and that was with a fuel leak.
I knew it needed new radiator hoses. I went to town to get them and on my way home the bottom hose broke I couldn't smell or see it (I was driving down a gravel road) The engine temp light came on just as the engine died. Ruined the head
Check your hoses!!!!!!!!!!

That's a really good buy on a fun truck. I have an 81 with a hot diesel installed. Superfun.

Default Sweet!!

nice one! Take care on the front fenders. They love to have corrosion and rust from the inside!
Did you get a 1.6l Diesel? Or the 1.6 TD? In Germany we had round head lights and a diffrent bumper.
If you have the Turbo Diesel throw a huge intercooler behind the front and you go easy up to 120HP.
There are special oil cooler avialable for that tiny engine. Man, I loved that engine.
I wish you a lot of fun with that roaring diesel.
greetings Michael

Default Diesel pu

Hey Dubdoc,
What setup do you have with your pu? Do you have a td setup?
I have an 80 pickup that I'm putting in an 85 td with a Garrett T2. I don't know what to expect, but I rebuilt the whole thing right and have yet to put it in. I think it should be much better than the leaking and tired 1.5 na., but have never driven a td vw.
I hope to put in another dash with the tach and cabriolet gauges. Its tough to get time to do it all.
Have fun,

Hi. Sorry for the tardy reply. I have a 1.9 AAZ (only available in Canada and Europe) with Garrett T3. It's been bored to 2 liters, balanced, head ported, superpump by Giles, big downpipe, etc., etc., etc.
Use the GTI console like mine.
