Hi all, just looking for some advice here, a long time ago i tried to replace my non functional glowplug, when removing it, the tip of the plug broke off and has been stuck there ever since, the specialized diesel places could not take it out without removing the head so i left it.

the error that comes up is getting old now so im wondering since the functionality of the plugs is measured by the resistance, will the error atleast go away if i connect a resistor with the correct resistance to the glowplug wires?

Did you find out what the resistance is and what size (wattage) is required. I have the same prob as you only more recent. The tip is still in the head and hoping it comes out the top under pressure and doesn't drop the other way. Broke two easy out tools trying to get the plug out b4 the thing snapped so can't see it ever coming out without the head off and machining. Just too expensive on a car worth around 3k

 

Hello fellow alfa owner

I discovered a resistor wont work so i managed to come up with another solution.

I found a glow plug that is short enough and thin enough to fit the alfa but the thread size was too small, it was M8 and the alfa takes M10.

So what i did was i bought a M6 longnut, took it to an engineering shop and had the one inner half drilled and tapped to M8 and the other outer half grinded and tapped to M10 so that it serves as an adapter of sorts, so then you just screw the M10 side into the head and screw the new glowplug into the M8 hole of the adapter and presto, sorted. only after i had this thing made up i heard you can buy it from a decent bolt and nut shop but oh well haha so visit some good bolt and nut shops first and see if you cant find one pre made for you.

Incase your wondering, the plug was for a citroen c2 diesel, ill try and find the NGK box to get the model number

Dont worry about it falling in, ive been driving mine for a long time like this and apparently it glows into some sort of chamber behind the valve so it wond just drop directly onto the piston and ruin your life.

Thanks for the advice and the fact that if the worse happens it won't be that bad! Worked out the resistor thing and came up with 144 watt resistor required. Don't think there is such a beast so decided to do pretty much what you have and fit a glow plug to the end of the lead and ground the thread part be means of a piece of copper wire. Not pretty but gets rid of the pesky light on the panel. Insulated the glowing end with a ceramic sleeve...didn't fancy an engine fire.

Hows your upper wishbones doing. Just had mine done and the garage said they last about 12 - 20k depending on the roads you drive on. Not that good really but then it is Italian.

haha funny you should ask, my bushes arent too well anymore the ride is very "crashy" but yes apparently the thing to do is fit poly bushes which cures it for a very long time, but i havent gotten around to it though as this car is also my everyday usage car.

on a side note, if you happen to stumble into a bolt and nut shop, try and find that thing i refer to now as the adapter, it will look better than the copper wire trick and maybe be safer against an electrical arc or fires. but im glad to hear you got the problem sorted
