yeah i'm just tryin to get it ruffed in this year and get all the bugs worked out then this winter im changing the tranny main shaft and t-case and drive shafts all 32 spline and flanged then that will mean i will have to go to lower axle gears so 5.38s will be on order...then its gettin painted and half wrapped for next season

this pic was with the stock engine that came in the truck when i bought it as a totaled rollover...there are parts from 4 different trucks that make this one up

I understand, it takes time. Once you get her all painted she will look as good as she runs

5.38's is a very low gear why not 4.88's or 5.13's?

i'm swapping out the np241hd for a np205 so i'm loosing the 2.72:1 low range and going to a 1.98:1

after doing the calculations i'm not sure what gear ratio to go with heres what i came up with

all mph is at 5000 rpm

241 and 3.55s (where i'm at now)
hi range 1 24.7 mph
hi range 2 45.5

low range 2 16.7
low range 3 30.5

205 and 3.55 (where i would be after the case swap)

hi range 1 24.7
hi range 2 45.5

low range 2 23.2
low range 3 42.3

205 and 5.38

hi range 1 16.3
hi range 2 30.0

low range 2 15.3
low range 3 27.9

what size tire? the best gear to run in the nv4500's is 4th low range, strongest gear in the trans and t case. Also its going to be very hard to turn 5000 down the track

33" tires 4th low with the 205 tcase even with 5.38s would be 46.1 mph that kinda wheel speed is what would make it hard to turn 5000 on the track...i'm trying to stay in the 25-30 mph wheel speed area 35 tops

i dunno about 4th being the strongest gear in the tranny....might be but i've seen 3 broken main shafts and all 3 broke at the 3/4 part of the shaft and also about low range being stronger then high range the low range gear is 1/2 the size of the high range gear in the output side of the tcase to make the lower gearing...now yes there is less mechanical advantage with the lower gearing which is easier on parts

just personaly i prefer to pull in high range 2nd gear which would give me a 30.0 mph top wheel speed vs a 46.1 top wheel speed in 4th low

to each there own ... as for the t case thing, I have blown the high range out of a case before but never a low range. in the 241's and 271's it uses a planetary setup for the low side which is stronger than the high side.

i just like the brute strength of the 205 being cast iron and gear to gear
