Last demo of the year 2010. Yesterday we had an indoor event in Etten Leur.

This time we had a very short indoor track of about 55 meters and we had to be careful not end up in the bar on the end of the track, it also look like they moved the beer to a safe place. LOL

As we run indoor there was a exhaust gas cleaner installed on the sled and the big fan that runs this unit was power by a generator on the back of the sled. Later on when we had to do our demo run the generator powering the filter system broke down so we rook the special stacks off and went for it, Ow man the pure sound of a V8.

I did my part as co pilot on the Scania 164 having a look at the gauges. And the first run went like creasy so fast as the sled was not able to slow us down so Martijn lifted the accelerator a bit to slow it all a bit down and after apply full power to lift the truck a bit more.

Our second run did not go as planed as the electrical hi pressure fuelpump was not working and we did not have full power, dam last place and one more thing to improve on the agenda for 2011.

We are slowly getting out of our winter sleep and last weekend we had our first demo with the Scania 164.
In Holland we have two organizations that run a semi truck pulling championship.
We have the NTTO 8,5 ton class and we run our truck under the VTN 9,5 ton class.
On this demo event we had two semi’s trucks out of the 8.5ton class and 4 semi’s trucks out of the 9.5 ton class.

Scania 164 and the Iveco from Rino Rocket where the only ones the made it to the superfinal.
In the superfinal we had a floating finish so you go as far as you can.
The national champion 8,5 ton NTTO Rino Rocket went just over 104 meter.
Martijn de Bekker with Scania 164 made a perfect run and whet a bit over 105 meter and won this event.

Interview with driver Martijn de Bekker. Sorry all in Dutch but it will give you some idea how we run things over here.

Last Sunday we had the last demo event before we enter the competition events.
We did make some changes to the engine management system that mode the engine a lot stronger.
@ the moment we are at the max of the turbochargers and it’s time we did get billed wheels for the 2x HX60 we are using.
Also we are well on our way with the development of the bigger injectors.
The plunger house is ready and now we are looking into getting bigger nozzle made and tested.
We are using a P type nozzle with a 8 hole symmetric spray pattern and so far we did find nothing that comes close to what we need as most of the big stuff is asymmetrical mainly used on pro stock engines for tractor pulling.

Picture of the Blue Fox sled. To bad he did not have the breaking force to stop us.

The last project I did was on the Cummins QSB engine range so all models 4 and 6 line with a BOSCH or Motortron ECU fitted OEM. In this case we build and ECU system for testing engines but it can be used for truck pulling as well as the ECU system is open base, same as on the Scania 164 that we use for Truck pulling.

The first podium place is a fact after our first event for the points. We manage to get a 3e place on the clay track with loads of traction.

We still working on getting bigger injector made but so far we did find some more HP in the existing set-up.
Last year we were struggling to keep the engine in the upper RPM range and we are still short of low end power compared to the 18 liter German manufactured V10 for Mercedes and MAN but we got the speed and traction to come close in general performance.

We also discovered that the lower gear ratios no longer work as we hoped due to a stronger engine hitting the RPM limiter like silly so there more work to be done there as well.

Some movies of the last demo event in Belgium where we tested one bigger injector on the Scania 164.

Not a very ideal track where traction is hard to find but it looks very spectacular with the start throwing a lot of sand making half the pulling sled disappear.

First run of 2011 black widow running a 18 liter V8 Mack engine after they slit the engine in half due to a crank failure last year.

Last Friday we had a championship event in Nederhemert Holland.

The organization prepared a very good clay track. Very flat and loads of gripping power so you can expect some drive train casualties among the trucks.

The top 5 trucks in the 9,5 class uses the first run more like a drag race making qualifying look like an easy thing.
Martein our truck driver selected a silly gear normally used on sand track made a run for it missing the 100 meter finish line completely and had to use all what’s left of the track to come to a standstill.

Balance on the clay makes or brakes it all. Get it wrong and you risk breaking the drive train or lose traction.
Our truck compared to the Iveco

The super final whent great al do we are still a bit short of power to go past the big V10 MAN and Mercedes but we are getting close with only 1.38 meter short for second place.

Martein our truck driver happy as ever with a 3e place.

Some more.

Yester we went to Montfoort Holland and the organization prepared a very good clay track.
The week upfront of this event we changed to 60% bigger injectors and we had the change to do some testing but on the track in Montfoort it will show if all the modifications worked out well.
Getting to the super final proved not to be very hard to do. For the first time this year we decided to run a very low gear as the track gave maximum traction and the sled breaking very hard. Running with wheel spin was simply not an option this time.

We were the first one on the super final pull and the set-up of the truck turned out very well as we made the full-pull very easy. To bad on the end of the run one of the turbochargers went kaboem as you can see in this movie so to bad no mega final.

After going over the ECM log files we make of every run we did find out that during torque reduction the boost pressure was low compared to the old set-up and the torque reduction setting or RPM governor setting where way to aggressive as the engine went to far down in RPM and picking op engine speed at a rate I ever seen before under max load hitting the RPM limiter again. The truck driver explained to me it felt like someone started and extra engine.
It looks like we need a bit more post injection to get more boost @ low power consumption this will soften up the RPM governing as well. Remember we can not run unlimited RPM. Any thing over 2900RPM and you will be disqualified.

Look how far the sled lifts if your able to launch with ALS. No need to use the clutch to get the turbochargers working just drop the clutch and only drop 400RPM.
