Is there any links as to where I can do some research on this. I think that it is BS but if Uncle Sam wants to be a ***** I guess that I'll tug properly.

what if your 1 ton dosent weigh 10,000, my husband f350 (single wheel) weighs 9,700lbs fully loaded, thats with 35" tires, ranch hands front and rear. Im just trying to figure out if I need to go get my CDL he allready has one but I dont. Also when you get your CDL can you just take it in the truck since you dont need the endorsements for air brakes or anything like that.

As far as I know for the CDL without airbrakes you just have to take the test in the truck that you need it for. If you want/need an air endorcement then you have to take it in a truck with air brakes.

That would be correct.

The need is based off of the weight classification and not the actual weight of the truck. It's more of the chain reaction stuff where one thing leads to the next. They are now mandating that all one ton trucks be plated with the 10,000 pound rated plates. This leads into the fact that now you fall under the CDL laws.

That is 100% correct. I carry a full copy (4" binder) of the hiway traffic act with me at all times. I got pulled over one night for having my fog lights on. the cop asks me to shut them off, and pull off to the side, I said 'no'...

He says, no you wont pull over?? I said no, I will of course pull over, but unless we are here till sunup Im not shuttin the lights off...then the fight was on. He tried to tell me that the fog lights were illegal to be used on the hiway. I said 'really....well lets just look this up'! Back on the road in 5 minutes flat.

Up here we have DOT cops, Sherrifs which are like US hiway patrol, and RCMP and all have different rules.....Know your stuff!

Scarecrow...your thoughts on this not happening make a ton of sense regarding the vast number of 1 ton owners, and up here it only affects you if you are commercial, but for us the 'commercial' designation covers so many people that there arent a lot of guys running private plates. If you own a 1-ton and use it for nothing other than driving or maybe pulling an RV, yes you can get away with it, but for contractors, landscapers, anybody pulling a trailer, they can pretty much prove that you are earning a fee for it, then you are screwed. Up here all last summer, check stops were set up right in town to catch the guys that dont get anywhere near the scales.

Trust me, from experience, get legal...its much cheaper than the fines!

If your not business and your truck realy is completely for nothin but personal use then you better find a way to prove it without pissin the nice feller standin at your door off. **** him off you may find yourself walkin the rest of the way.

But quit honestly, if you have something loaded on your truck it can be interpretted as commerce in some way shape or form and that's a fact. If your haulin sheet of plywood for to fix your roof, your improving the resale value of your home to make a profit. This is just how stupid this not only can get but is. They want us payin taxes on these trucks and they're gonna get it from fees or fines, take your choice.

This is one of those times that i really wish somebody would show me to be completely wrong. This whole deal is gonna screw with my entire life. I raise ***** and a few cattle. Not near enough to make a profit. That means that this is gonna add considerable expense to my life without increasing my profit at all. Not to mention i have to take time out to figure out what I need to do to be legal now and even after all this reading I have done, I'm still clueless.

Just a question, the phrase 1 ton truck has been mentioned throughout this thread, will this change also affect 3/4 ton trucks. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but my truck weighs about 7300lb empty, me in it, 1/8 tank of fuel. I'm runnin a 9000lb tag currently.
