I have use the gear venders sence 1990 and I really like it with the wide gear ratios. Most gas trucks there is 1100 rpms between shifts the gear vender will drop that in half. it has a pump to ingage the gear that runs on the shaft inside the overdrive. I like splitting the gears that why they call it under/overdrive It is 600 rpm under 4th if you use it in 3rd. and overdrive when used in high gear.

I just picked up a Mitchell Gear Splitter and will be putting it behind my NV4500 in the spring. It is a model 2000-A , good 20000 gvw and is 28 percent over drive.

I been running a GV in the 1st Gen for about 4 years now, IIRC. Best damn mod I ever did to that truck, bar none. With the 4.10s and Getrag/GV combo it's a real towing monster. Always has the right gear available at the flick of a switch, no matter what.

I even modded the GV itself with a 4qt. external sump to increase cooling capacity and add filtration for it. I'm pretty sure it's just about bullet-proof now.

Why would you want OD or gear splitting in 4WD?

I have an Advance Adapters gear splitter/OD in my '67 W200 power wagon and use it many times during my hunting trips. It is capable of 4x4 operation and the biggest reason I chose it over a GV. Some of the hills we climb the gearing is too high or low at times to successfully negotiate them but splitting the gear can and does at times make the difference. In fact this rig is the only full size rig that has been able to successfully climb one particular hill without winching. And it has done it numerous times when it was still legal to do so. In great part due to near perfect gearing for that climb. This rig was bought new by my Dad so I have been around it since new. I tried this same climb with my '73 PW and could not make it. Too low in first and too high in second with that rig. The major difference was in the trannys. The trail is now closed so no one can try it anymore. I also use it on very slow going roads/trails where I might want more speed but no more RPM and can choose a better gear with it than without it. It also works good when you have to go slower also but need less than a full jump in gearing.
