I know the axles are a little far forward. I'm not sure if I will move them or not. My pulling truck has teh weight of teh Cummins over teh front axle plus abouut 1,000+ extra lbs so the tounge weight can get crazy fast. I'll tow it once and see what I think.

Well I went out today and got the new jack, I did not feel comfortable working on the trailer with the old unit, you will see why in the pics...

New vs. Old - Old was rated at 1,000 lbs, New is rated at 5,000 lbs

New Hardware vs. Old Hardware - Old is about 3/16 grade whatever, New is 7/16 Grade 8. Had to drill teh holes out to 7/16 also, I cant believe this trailer was held up empty on this crap jack and hardware...

Those do appear to be trailer house axles under it. Not that it matters too much though. My dad has a 16ft flatbed trailer that has them under it and has hauled idk how much different crap and has an a$$ ton of miles on it man the he!! I have put that trailer through and its still going the axles have been rebuilt numerous times and holds up to alot of abuse. So once you get er done should be a very good trailer for you there Bobby

Not mobile home axles, actual Dexter Utility Axles, Rated at 6,000lbs. They have bolt on backing plates for the brakes, thats the big clue. True "moble home axles" are non-servicable and teh backing plates are welded on, they are cheap. These axles used to be very common.

Ok then that is what my dad has on his trailer cuz it has brakes as well they just have mobile home style wheels then I guess. I just figured that they were all the same. Thanks for the info.

The mobile home axles have brakes as well (at least some). The main difference is that on mobile home axles they are welded to the axle tube so you cant replace them. On teh bolt on ones like these you can replace the hub and brakes and run standard 8-lug wheels!

Good read

Got a little more done today.

To start with I found a guy selling a bunch of mobile home axles for $75, figured I would go look. Well I could only find one with the correct backing plate for an 8-lug hub conversion. He wanted $75 each for them so i bought it. When I got home I relized that its 6" wider then the axles under the trailer now. No biggie, with teh tires mounted to the new axle it still comes in under 8'. The old ones would have looked funny in there any way, being narrow and all.

I figured I should pull them apart to see what kinda mess the bearings and brakes are in... THEY LOOK GREAT! Just one spring broken inside. I'm gonna go back Friday and get an idler axle for the rear until I can find a braking axle that matches.

So... Some @sshole cant use a tape... The axles are centerd 175" from teh front on the drivers side... and 171" on the passanger... I was kicking around teh idea of moving the axles back anyway guess now I might as well.
