I just sold my shorty bed and upgraded to a long bed dually because I couldn't turn the 35 foot trailer very tight, I would just about take out the back window. The difference in hauling is night and day as well. It depends on how the nose of the trailer is designed.

Ive done alot of commercial towing and with what your describing, a short bed will do just fine. Placement of ball in relation to center of axle is a concern, Rule of thumb is 3" ahead of axle, this transfers aproxamatly 7% of tongue weight to the front axle and makes for a better ride !!!!

I've got an 01 QCLB, pulled a 30+5 GN deck over with a tall load on it and the worst problem was the head wind (40mph+)... pulled like a dream; now when I pulled a friends 42' bumper pull park model camper... what a freakin night mare!!!!! I couldn't do over ~55 because of the leverage it had against me, it kept tryin' to pass and yes it had brakes!

i have a 2500 quad cab short bed and pull an enclosed goose neck trailer. it pulls and handles great. the only problem that i had was backing. i could not back the trailer tight to the left or right because there was not enough room from the front of the trailer to the truck cab. i put an extension on the goose neck about 12 inches and now i can back it up in a complete L shape without any problems.
