I've got an old cobra 25 and a 3' firestick. I can talk about 50' haha. I usually only use it when "convoy'ing" anyway.

I've been thinking about getting an amatuer HAM license, and rigging up some of that in the truck.

bought it used from a guy i work with. stop in any truck stop that has a CB shop and talk to the dudes that work there. sometimes you can find some used stuff they either fixed or took in on trade or people put up on consignment. most times you can get a real good deal there and if you can get in good with the CB guy he can order you a 10 meter amp (the ones that require you to have a HAM liscense) and sell it to you and not require the liscense....

I have a Icom and Kenwood, there both pretty good, but there not cb there two way, need them for piloting here. I like the Icom way better though. Just clearer and nice dont have the static that the kenwood does.......

Galaxy or Connex is the only way to go. I've got an old Galaxy 33 in my pickup with a RoadKing mic. If you want to be heard, thats the way to go

Same set-up here. Galaxy33HML with HOT finals (55 watts) and a Road King mic.
You don't need to spend big money on a radio. Just get a good radio with a good antenna (don't be cheap on the ant.) and some good quality coax and make sure you get the SWR set and you should be able to talk for miles.
A good peak and tune job on a radio is always a good idea too.
