Hey All....
Been out of the CB's for a while, other than for 4x4ing and hunting....
Back when I was a Hooligan...I ran a Cobra 29LTD Classic, tuned up so it would swing the Mod and power from 2 watts to 10watts...And behind it I ran a Sweet 1600 watt Linear...
When Running down the road, I had to keep the 1600 on lowest setting...I'll admit it was running a wee bit dirty....I could smoke little radios if they keyed up on the same channel while I was talking....
I used to run up on a Mountain here locally and Talk Skip....I had a Antron 99 Base Ant . I put up 20 ft over my Truck on a Pole...Farthest I ever chatted was to a Radio guy on a Container Ship going around the Horn of South America....THAT WAS COOL....
I used to send and recieve post cards from skippers....Got them put away in a Box along with a World MAp...
Now with Kids...I am getting back into the CB's...In the rigs I have uniden 510 XL's Great small unit, accepts extra Channels above and below The regular 40 band...as well as tunable for better watts and Mod....I Tend to turn watts up to 5watts from 2-3 and then clip the mod so it can swing hard when you chat....I run a 450 watt kicker in my Truck behind my uniden....
I run a President Grant Base Station... with Mods and Extra channels...Using that same Antron 99 Ant. 60ft up in a Fir Tree.....
This way Kids and Wife can hollar at me When Away from home....
From The Base at home, I have chatted with my Wife and Kids while Over the Mountain on Hunting trips....I get on top of a Peak at 6500 ft, and Talk like they are right there with me...We do this up on Extra Channels to keep the background chatter to nothing....
Way cheaper than Cell phone bills....
Most of you guys are east of the Rockies...But if you are ever running thru Eugene Oregon, Hollar for Mudrat or Ms. Mudrat.... Thats Our Crew....

does a bull horn make someone loud and obnoxious?...
you have to get the CB tuned for running a linear or you'll burn it up.... i have a switch on mine that knocks it from 38 watts dead key to 4 watts. it makes the signal alot cleaner coming out of the amp as it's not trying to over modulate the signal..... now don't get me wrong it'll reach out and touch someone when it's on high and the amp is on high..... it'll accually over-ride fm radio's in cars beside me in front and behind.... i love keying it up and saying "hey" and then watching people look around wandering if it was God or something.....
