Default What size flatbed gooseneck is my truck capable of towing?

Will my 07 5.9 2500 2wd, tow a 8000lb 40' gooseneck trailer, not to mention the freight on the trailer, that could be upwards of 10 or 15k, what kind of weight can I pull, and what mods do I need, air bags, springs, exhaust break.......
Has anyone actually hauled with this truck, and would it be better for me to just trade it in for a 3500, thanks for the answers!

A bag of charcoal and a grill is to much for a dodge. Just watched a guy towing a 28 ft bumper pull with his 2013 dodge cram blow his trans to pieces just leaving a stop sign. This guy is a friend of mine. Good thing my superduty was there to save his ***. Had to drag his truck up to the gas station and tow his trailer and his family home. That's my opinion on your question and dodge trucks.

It all depends on what axel you have I will say your springs are not able to hande the load if you got 3.55 gears instead of the 4.10 it will be a royal pain to tow with that much wait. I would top your truck capacity to 18K at the max. But be good to get a good set of air bags, and trany temp guages. A 3500 with 4.10 would be a rig for towing over 20K Iv towed trailer weight of 38K with our 6.0L Ford F 350, did not go past 35mph and got 4 mpg but eventually got there, My truck ive towed 16K at the max.. Does good. But tranny temp and EGT gauge would be beneficial to you.

Well god damn Im glad a superduty saved a dodge. How bout shut up, give advice and quit the bashing, Ive seen them all blow up, and i have fixed them all. Ive saved a couple of fords and chevys when they either blew a head gasket, egr, and just flat out ate a piston... Even a couple of dodges.. Nothing perfect.. Thats why were here to make our trucks better than from the factory. If you blow up a tranny you either over loaded, dumped a clutch or failed to maintain the vehicle. Have a nice rest of your day.

Default 2007 5.9L Cummins Transmission Specifications

I am new here, but I noticed you were asking about towing capacities. Below are the stats from Dodge for the early 2007 48RE auto transmission.

If you are interested in more details regarding your truck you can find more posted at TDR using their free Dodge Cummins manual. The manual is 298 pages packed full of info from Cummins and Dodge including Technical Service Bulletins for each year of Dodge Cummins (1989 to 2012).

Hope this is helpful.

Regards.
