New to forum
I have been "lurking" on the forum before joining. The knowledge of the members posting makes my head spin! I am a card carrying AARP female, with a 1999 7.3 Ford Diesel Supercab. I purchased the truck from the original owner years ago, with a mileage of
29K. It now has 106,000 miles. I use it to to pull a 2 horse steel gooseneck, not more than 10,000 lbs. with all the gear and horses. I only use it to pull, generally within 40 miles of home on weekends. Many times I am by myself, and while I have road side assistance for truck and trailer, my big fear is getting stuck by the edge of the road. I only put 5-6K on the truck a year. It gets regular maintenance. Within the past 6 months I have replaced the front ball joints, and the master brake cyclinder. I started to look for a newer truck, but quickly discovered 2008 and up has lots of emissions add ons, requiring you to "drive 'em like you stole 'em, and pull heavy loads for more than a short distance. I drive like a little ole' lady when I have my horses loaded( O.K. with or without the horses the little ole' lady is driving!), and not long distances. So, then I looked at V-10 Fords, and found they are scarce as hen's teeth. Then I looked at V-8's, and dealers felt I would not be happy with a V-8 after having my diesel. So keep truck or trade? And trade for what? I need used, as I can not afford the new prices. If I keep it, would it be a good idea to get a new fuel pump and alternator just to be safe? Any advice appreciated!

Well first of all, Ok, now that that's done, If i were you I would stay with your 7.3 PSD. At 106k its just broken in. Get your signature set up so we can see whatcha got relative to mods. You will not be happy going back to a gasser.....especially a v-10 gasser. It will pull just aout anything but those 10 cylinders are thirsty. Ya got any mods now or any in mind? A well tuned and set up 7.3 PSD will do whatever you want done, and with decent fuel mileage, without major expense. And way less than a monthly truck payment. They get way better fuel mileage pulling, than any gasser. Any pics of your rig you can post? Of course if youre tired of your rig, I might be interested If youre currently having issues with your fuel pump or alternator, then by all means replace them. Have them checked out first. Changing them out for "piece of mind" is totally up to you though. But, I can see where youre coming from with that. Always a good idea, however, to keep spare fuel filters with you. Other members will chime in for sure. Hope you enjoy the site.
