The now standard "safety bead" is on the inside of the wheel that holds the tire on is about 1/2"-3/4" in from the inside edge of the wheel and is about 1/8" tall.

OK now I understand what you're talkin about, never heard it called a saftey bead nor do I understand it's safety purpose, all it does is help keep the tire bead on if it goes flat

I run radial humvee tires. Wasn't fun getting them to pop onto a 10" wheel without the safety bead.

There's a tool for that, the newer ones today are called cheetah's, I have one of the older style "blasters" looks like a grill tank with a 3" pipe and a ball valve, with a triangular head that takes it from 3" round down to a1/2 inch by 5" tip. Just put 120 psi in the tank, stick the head between the bead and the rim, hang on to it good and yank the ball valve open, and you'll see why they call it a blaster. A lil ether and a match will do the same thing if you have gonads, just don't get carried away with the ether

If all of the tire company's were wise they would produce more 16.5's instead of less. Yeah the 18-22" wheels look good on newer trucks, but a lot of people like the old school look on the trucks from the 60's-mid 90's, and there are a ton of wheels out there that need new shoes on them that people don't want to upgrade. I am one of those people if you hadn't noticed! I'm done now.

Actually did use a cheetah, biggest one in town, still wouldn't pop it on. It was a colder day and they were stiff. but it wound up taking 3 guys compressing the tire and one with the cheetah to get them on.

Yeah, I'm one of those that doesn't really care for the 18s and up on the older trucks. And even with the blaster can and goo I still had to hold the wheel against the inside bead while a friend shot the can to get them to pop.

Those cheetah blasters are really a POS compared to the old style blasters they made before them. If I think of it tomorrow I'll get a pic of mine. I've seen tires where you had to hit them with 2 or even 3 cheetahs at the same time, works good as long as everybody opens at the same time. Another tip is to mame sure you use plenty of bead lube, a dry bead is way harder to seat than a lubed one

20 years ago every tire company out there made them but as new tire and wheel technology came out the demand for 16.5's dwindled to the point where tire company's stopped making them
