Default 90s chevy wheel spacing?

Does anyone know why early to late 90s chevy trucks have a wider wheel width in the front, thatn the back? When i looked at my 1994 Chevy 2500 4x4, i noticed that the front tires were farther out than the back, i thought it just had spacers but i have seen other trucks like mine that have the same thing, and have talked to friends that say the same about trucks like this with the same thing. is it a traction thing?, or maybe a plow package thing?, idk, so i am intersested to find out why?
