I have an 2004 250 6.0 ps with the FX4 package. My truck sits level, is that part of the package or has someone leveled it??? and i am looking in to adding air bags to help with the ride. I work construction out of the truck as well as being my personal truck. My truck sits about as tall as i want for a working truck, don't want to have to tip toe to reach into bed to get toolbelt. will air bags raise truck up at all??? I drive about 150miles everyday so i really am looking forward to a better ride. I love my new truck but i feel every pebble on the road. I have leafs front and back if ya'll need to know.

ps if anyone knows about this setup what are the tallest and fattest tires i can fit. Need good mudders to get from road to homesite. have slick highway tires on now and got stuck in my yard this weekend in a half inch of mud spin and spin

I would guess that it has been leveled. CHeck to see how many leafs it has on each side in the front spring packs. As far as air bags, no it wont raise the truck any unless you have them aired up with out a load. At the recommended no load pressure you can't see any difference. They do not help your ride unless you are loaded down and have adjusted the air accordingly, they then prevent the suspension from bottoming out as easily. If you went with a true air ride system like Kelderman ($$$$$$) then you would see a better ride. As far as tire size if it has not been leveled you can run a 305/70-16 w/o rubbing on stock wheels. With a leveling kit you can go up to a 315/70-17 or 315/75-16.

2? the trucks at work have 3-4 i think, Ill have to look at whats factory. My truck has 10 leafs in each front spring pack. Talk about a rough ride.

 

It's stock provided the spring packs have a negative arch. My 99 had 2 spring, spring packs also. It may also have the snow plow package on it. They came with a higher front spring rate, and sat a little higher in the front. The 6" Skyjacker Lift I put on it had several springs in each pack, but it rode comparable to stock (more thinner leafs vs. 2 thicker leafs).

 

vrodrex, yeah that sounds like my truck, sprngs are flat across. It was a service truck before I got it. I found a railroad rule book in glove box and it has a two-way radio in it. I notice that the front end is just a little lower than front, but nothing compared to other 250's i've seen. I'm thinking of putting a camper shell on it, one with the tool boxes in the side windows(need to keep tools safe, been alot of theft around here). So if i do that then putting a lift on it will not affect the workability of the truck. Would a good lift help ride with out back end sag when about 600lbs of tool in it?

The lift I had just replaced the front springs and added rear blocks. I have air bags on my Dodge, and like them. If you don't want to lose workability just add bags, otherwise it get's hard to access the bed. 600lbs. will smooth out the ride also.

 

my truck has the towing package, sticker says 11500 lbs. Will air bags affect that?? or should i just put them up front to level it up?

 

The air bags raise your load capacity, and to a point raise the rear to keep the truck level when towing / hauling. The Firestone and other brand bags I don't think are designed for the front, just the rear.

 

Legally the bags dont increase your load or towing capacity. What your truck is rated for is it. Im not sayin that i always haul legal weights, thats up to you. But, if you get stopped and your over weight, your gettin a ticket.
