Default wheel mods

I just bought a set of 3rd gen dually wheels for my 1st gen D350. I know the 3rd gens are 9/16 and I need to drill them out to 5/8. I've read several posts around the web where it's been done with a step bit and a hand drill. Anybody here done it? Tips? advice? Pics?
