Default Front suspension help

I have an 07.5 Dodge 2500 with a 2.5 leveling kit. I have a wander issue and have had the front end aligned numerous times. Does not seem to help. Recently I upgraded the sway bar end links, stock ones where bent (probably from being on a lift for all the DPF warrantee work). The new end links are not exactly vertical they lean forward slightly, so I installed a bracket that connects to the frame and the pitman arm. It was sold as a fix for wander. I still have the problem so I'm reaching out to see if anyone has had the same issue and a fix
Thanks

Hmmm maybe a trac bar? An adjustable one is always a good idea when you lift it

Default wanderring 07 dodge ram

Just wanted to give you some possible suggestions.

I am a suspension specialist with 35 years experience with any and all suspensions, so my first question is what kind of tires are you running? Next have you had the steering box stabalizer kit that BD makes, this is the #1 upgrade that you can make on your rig my next question would be, did the vehicle wander at all before the leveling kit was installed, because when you change the height of any vehicle it will change the caster angle on the alignment also how many miles are on the vehicle. Cheers!

Hey dartman I do have that steering bracket just installed it recently. Truck has a little over sixty thousand miles, tires are nitto's stock size, and no wander when it was stock, I have a 2.5 inch leveling kit by Rough Country. I did replace the sway bar end links stock ones were bent upgraded ones are not positioned exactly vertical like I have read about they are slightly forward. I also purchased two brackets that re position the sway bar in conjunction
with the BD steering bar but when they wouldn't work along with the BD bracket caused the sway bar to hit the pitman arm. To describe them they are two brackets that go between the frame and sway bar attaches to them, supposedly used with a leveling kit and my guess is to make the end links stand vertical not sure though. let me know if this is helpfull thanks for your reply

Flswamprat!

I dont know why these brackets are causing P/A interference because they are supposed to be compatable, are they possibly drilled offset and maybe being installed 180 degrees off? Irregardless the sway bar has absolutely nothing to do with road wander. My reccomendation would be to have the lower control arm eccentrics to their maximum rotation which will give you maximum caster on your alignment, this will increase road stability, it will put your front drive line U-Joint at a slightly more severe angle but there will be no adverse effect on it. ( This is the first thing that I do on EVERY 2nd or 3rd Gen. ram that comes into my shop, it was also done on my 01 ram at 1000 miles and at 70,000 miles the stock front U-joint is fine.) The next two things I reccomend are to have the Tie rods properly checked and the steering gear preload adjusted, to check the tie rods have a freind start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel right and left approx. 3 to 4 inches either direction and observe the ends where they attach at the socket ends, ANY movement either sise to side or where it looks like the socket is squishing in and out is condemnable. I can just about quarrantee you that at least the one that attaches to the pitman arm is giong to be bobbing up and down if you see any of this in any component you have to replace it, and DO NOT use any thing but moog parts, they are a little pricey but these are a problem on the stock design and EVERYONE else builds their parts to O.E. specs. NAPA IS NO EXCEPTION to poor design, been there, seen that done that. the last thing is on the steering gear preload you must set the front wheel both at perfect straight ahead (Steering wheel should also at this time be sitting level, then there is a jamb nut located on the upper side of the box that requires a 5/8 wrench to loosen and the adjusting bolt in the center of it requirews a 3/16 allen wrench, the correct procedure for adjusting this is to put the allen wrench into the bolt to keep it from turning, next loosen and back the jamb nut 3 to 4 turns remove 5/8 wrench this is so when you turn allen wrench you are feeling the drag of only the back lash disappearing and not tension from the fibrelock in the jamb nut, then turn allen wrench clockwise until you start to feel a considerable difference , (by considerable I am talking maybe 6 to 8 inch pounds to turn allen wrench) (You will notice the difference from when you started turning it to when the backlash starts decreasing) when you reach this point you will turn the allen wrench counterclockwise 1/4 turn, then hold allen wrench from moving while tightening jamb nut. You may also want to check the bushings at either end of the track bar while you are checking for play in the tie rods, Some very slight movement is acceptable and if they neep replacing moog also makes a urethane bushing repair kit.

Hope this helps, Cheers and good luck!

Flswamprat!

By the way I noticed an earlier post that suggested an adjustable track bar!

on a 2.5 leveling kit this is a waste of money as you havent changed your steering geometry enough to warrant spending the $$$$$$.
