The ZooDad mod is for Ford Super Duty trucks from 99-07. If you pop the hood on your super duty and look where the cold air intake comes through the grill area you will notice under the rubber flap that it goes into a dead area. If you pop off your grill "4 screws and 4 spring clips" you will have access to the area on the drivers side. Most super duties have an ambiant air sensor attached to the fiberglass section. Right above that is the area to be cut out to create a ram air affect into your air box. I cut a 4x6 inch opening and reinstalled the sensor. I just removed the sensor so I didnt hurt it. I have never had any issue with water getting in and if you want you can make a mesh cover to put over it. This combined with the Ford AIS is one of the best ways to go. This is not mine but one like it.

Stupid question #1........

Would doing the "Zoodad" mod even make sense if I'm already running an open air element under the hood? I've been considering this mod but have been wondering if it's even worth doing since it seems to be more in line for people with stock AIS'. Thanks in advance.

 

my experience with the under hood open element like just putting a round filter on the end of the intake does nothing but suck in hot engine air and I lost mpg as well as others. As for the factory system, the AIS like I put on mine or someithing like an AFE, K&N Filter Charger or so on it still helps big time to get the cold air rammed into the engine compartment and into the filter.

 

The only time there is ANY mesurable air temp differance between underhood and outside temps are when not moving. Otherwise they are the same...

If you lost MPG with a Tymar type intake you left a rag in the intake or something. Not going to happen.

 

I didnt know that. Do you have an underhood air temp sensor so you can tell?

 

On an intercooled motor hot engine air does not matter as Joe said.
