Awesome-Can you explain the long waiting period? Is it due to law restrictions?
Is there any noticeable suppression with high speed ammo?
A suppressor is sadly one of the most highly forbidden toys in europe. Only hunters hunting critters on graveyards are allowed to have one.
Even carrying a knife with a blade length over 4" is getting a problem...

In 1934 the government decided that it wanted to outlaw some types of weapons, they decided that they couldn't just outlaw them that would be illegal so instead they put a expensive (for 1934) tax of $200 on them. Well the law is still around and the tax is still the same, its easier to swallow now a days. It takes 6 to 8 months because our government works at the speed of smell....
Long Story...

most people use subsonic ammo, under 1100 FPS (feet per second) or so, when using a suppressor on a short barrel like a pistol, a good suppressor will suppress faster ammo like 1250-1300fps (mine has suppressed "1600 fps" ammo (CCI Stingers) when fired wet out of a 3" barrel). The reason being is the shorter barrel keeps the speed down on the bullet because the gas dosen't have time to fully expand and transfer all it's energy to the bullet.
when shooting a rifle you will still heat a sonic crack if using anything faster than 1050 fps sub sonic ammo.

Shooting a High powered Rifle with a suppressor in most cases will bring the noise heard by the shooter to bellow OHSA hearing protection required levels. And while you still get the sonic crack from the round down range it is almost impossible for a person to locate the shooter from the sonic crack.
I still remember the silencer on the mil issued Aim Accurracy. I guess it didn't used sub-sonic .338 ammo.
So thanks for the explantion - being not able to locate the shooter might be the clear reason for using a silencer.
Hey, gov' working speed is the same everywhere- with one exception:
If they want money from us...

my suppressor can be completely disassembled so i sometimes fire it "wet". I use the clear wire pull gel that you get at Lowes or any electrical supply company. it is water soluble and non staining. the gel will act like egg crate foam on the wall of a recording studio and help absorb the sound wave. the sound wave will not "bounce" off the gel surface like it will bounce off a hard metal surface. as the gel settles to the bottom of the suppressor then it is not likely to get in the path of the bullet and therefore shouldn't affect the accuracy.
most suppressors are built to their design limits, the above RSWORDS is getting using a K-baffle design while mine uses a mono-core baffle stack. by their selves "dry" they are very efficient on shooting 22LR BUT to get that little bit better sound suppression you can fire them "wet" and it will knock a few dB off the sound.
most 22 cans when shooting subsonic ammo dry you will hear the action of the gun, and a pop like a pellet gun and the bullet impacting the target. if you want to get rid of the pop you can shoot "wet" and you will hear the firing mechanism, the action of the gun and the bullet impacting the target.
and on the CCI Stingers, they are a Hyper-velocity bullet traveling at 1600+ FPS. i use them in my P22. with the 3" barrel they almost reach supersonic speed but the powder is still burning when the bullet leaves the barrel so there is more of a pop than from bulk ammo firing at ~1150 FPS.
