Point me in the direction of some high quality accessories for an SKS then...oh wait...no one makes high quality accessories for an SKS. If LaRue or somebody like that made a rail system for the SKS, I'd probably have bought it instead. ...and by screwing up a Norinco that way it also shows you really do not know much about Norinco or how hard/almost impossible it is to get them now...and that they are worth quite a bit in the original configuration... I was only told it was a Norinco by the gun shop that I bought it from, so maybe they were wrong and by no means am I an SKS guru. But if a Norinco is worth so much in the original configuration, why was I able to buy this rifle for less than $270? UTG is nothing but cheap Chinese made toy gun parts for air soft guns...and tapicco is known world wide as tapico fucking a gun...total shit, cheap crap for people who do not know better, or just want to throw away money...by making a gun look "cool" or "tactical" thus the phrase tacticool came about... Again, back to lack of better options for an SKS. Did not see the part about the eotech being a cheap chineese fake...but hey, it's your money and if ya want to flush it down the toilet so be it... I knew it was a fake when I bought it, and I knew I would be taking a risk at it not working. But even had I not bought it, who says an alternative in the same price range($80) would have been any better or worse. Just cuz ya could have gotten a cheap Chinese aimpoint micro knock off from PA and have been further ahead...as it's actually a good optic...& ya can even get one with a mount that's better than the utg toy parts... |
What the hell is a SKS? Where do you find them so cheap? There is one on Texas gun trader for $350 thats a norinco. I figured for an extra $50 i could get a sweet AK, assuming its a decent rifle.
Someone said you can mod the ar's more, but from what i read you dont need to mod a AK maybe put a sling on it and call it good. Also how would one mount a optic to a AK i dont see any rails on the recievers. Btw Ramp sweet ak! |
The SKS was the predecessor to the AK and didn't see service long before being replaced by the AK. Try gunbroker. I just looked tonight and there's lots of them on there. Yugos are the most popular but are longer and heavier because of the grenade launcher muzzle device and associated sights and the gas system is slightly different. Just look around and you might be able to find one cheaper. I think I got a pretty good deal on mine and just happened across it at the right time. I wasn't even looking for an SKS at the time. I was looking at ARs and AKs as well and saw this SKS for 250 bucks. I checked it out and put it back. I called back the next week and told them I'd be in later to pick it up.
Check out this site for more info on them: Survivor's SKS Boards - Index Most AKs come with a side mount on the left side of the receiver for a scope mount. It is the best way to put an optic on an AK. There are other quad rails for the fore end and ones that replace the rear sight. There is also a rail that replaces the rear sight and attaches to the tang for the stock. |
Ok so i did what i thought wasnt going to do, lets just say im a owner of a sig sauer now. I really hated the way it felt a few months ago at the gun show but when i grabbed one today at cabelas i fell in love with it. Ill post up some pics later.

Anyways here it is Sig Sauer pro 2022 in 9mm of course:tu: no frills or thrills on it ill get some night sights and probably call it good and maybe some grips i dunno tho it feels NICE:jump: Attachment 39955 Attachment 39956 |
Nice! I looked at a few Sigs when I was looking for my first pistol last year but they were a bit out of my budget. Recently I just found out about the Certified Pre-owned sigs that are out there. They seem like a really good deal. Factory reconditioned and much cheaper.
So when ya gonna go shoot it? |

---AutoMerged DoublePost--- If you are absolutely set on an AK, you need to get either an Saiga or an Arsenal. Saigas can be had for a little over $300 unconverted and I hear the conversion is pretty easy to DIY. I think a base model Arsenal is about $800. |

Save for an M1A.

Saigas can be had for a little over $300 unconverted and I hear the conversion is pretty easy to DIY. I think a base model Arsenal is about $800. Heres the arsenal i was looking at. ARSENAL SGL2171 AK-47 7.62X39 5RD BLK $759.00 SHIPS FREE |
Saigas are imported as a "sporting" rifle in a few calibers including .223, 5.45x39, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, and 12 ga. Because they are "sporting" rifles, they do not have the pistol grip and the trigger is farther back on the receiver so you can reach it from the standard hunting type rifle stock. Here's an example of an unconverted saiga: SAIGA IZ 132 Sporterized AK47 16" Carbine 7.62x39 : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com
Another thing about the Saigas is that not all AK accessories will fit them, but they have they're own lineup of accessories and are quite comparable in cost to other AK stuff. The conversion is putting the parts on that make it an "assault" style rifle and look more like a traditional AK. This would include the pistol grip and stock, plus any internal parts(if needed). I've never done the conversion or ever seen it done so I am not 100% sure what all it entails. I have heard that it is very simple to do and that you can buy an unconverted saiga, convert it, and deck it out pretty cheap. You can buy ones that have already been converted but they'll run about what an Arsenal does, maybe cheaper if you watch gunbroker or auctionarms. That model or the SGL-31(5.45x39) are the ones that I would get from Arsenal. They're the base models and plenty good enough for most of us. |
There is more to it then that but it is easy. Just gotta make sure you have enough American parts after converting. I converted my saiga in an afternoon.
|
Thanks guys i was always wondering what the difference was between a saiga and regular ak.
Rswords could you elaborate a little more? How much did you spend converting it? Any special tools needed? Any pics? Thanks! |

Ya know how you realized how much of a POS the HiPoint was...well, ya put a good quality holster next to that one and ya will realize the same thing again...:humm: :humm: :humm:
I'm not even sure I'd use a uncle mike's holster like that as a range/around the house holster.. But hey, I've been called a gear queer a few times...but believe in paying for quality up front once..and not having to pay again and again in upgrading...:ouch: :ouch: :c: |
