Can't bring myself to spend the $200+ for a nice B&C stock just yet, I have other non-shooting guns I need to spend some cash on.

I am finding a bunch of factory take-off Hogue over molded stocks for $50ish.... Think its worth teh upgrade to a "full floater"... I know that in real hot weather and with a bipod some people have reported teh stock flexing enough to make the barrel touch the stock slightly.

Anyway... Thought?

Stocks are so critical to an accurate rifle I'd never go cheap on one, just wait till ya save up the cash to get a high quality one like a McMillan, I can't remember off hand who made the stock my 700PSS came with, but it's a high end stock and needed some tweeking...

 

Both stocks are cheapy stocks. The Hogue is a "better" stock though. It is full float unlike teh one thats on it. I really hate the camo on my stock and have been wanting to paint it anyway, two birds with one stone. I will have a nice stock down the road but I want to finish up a couple AR builds I have going on right now...

Gun already shoots .75MOA now....

What kind of stock is that & would a little work with sand paper tune it up??

 

Don't want a wood stock.

I'll buy me a nice Chote or something in the next 6 months. Then I'll sell the used stock I just picked up for the same price I bought it forl.

 

It's my understanding any of the polymer (plastic) stocks that come on the majority of less expensive guns will get soft as they heat up. The good synthetic stocks will be made from materials like hand-laid fiberglass reinforced with graphite. They are usually denser and a bit heavier than their plastic counterparts but are absolutely impervious to temp changes.

 

That's exactly right. Its no secret that the Huoge will warm up and touch the barrel if all the weight is all the way forward on the stock.

 

I've got a couple of the Hogue stocks. One is the black one found on their "tactical" 700 SPS and the other is the green marbled one found on the AAC-SD edition. They are the same, save for the color variation.

I was able to get pretty good results from them before I swapped them out. If you're interested I can sell either one to you.

 

Already got one from a take-off AAC-SD....

Now I'm just waiting on my bottom metal to show up...
