Combat Shotgun
I need the baddest mfer around for home protection. Mossberg, remington, benalli??? What should i get, dont wanna spend to much. But i want a nice reliable gun to keep next to my bed. Would like foregrip, flashlight, and pistol grip atleast......
|
do you want a pump or auto?
|
I'd say 870 or Mossy 500 or 590. Pump guns are definitely more reliable! Tons of aftermarket parts and accessories for them plus they're pretty inexpensive. You can buy a new one set up as a tactical gun(costs a little more) or you can get a regular plain jane one and build it yourself.
I have an old 870 Wingmaster that I'm working on as I get extra funds to do so. If you go with the 870, I got a stock and forend I'd be willing to sell. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Not to mention that the sound a pump gun makes! Bad guy breaks in, you grab the pump shotgun and rack a shell, if bad guy hears you, he'll probably be gone before you get to him(if he has any brain cells left at least.) |
Dude, you're in Marble Falls, not Laredo. Why you need a bad ass riot shotgun? :humm: I'd go with an 870, but if $ is an issue, Mossberg is ok. :pca1:
|
Find one that goes bang when you pull the trigger. Shotguns aren't rocket science.
|
|
i say 870 express thats what i keep by mine, there amazing guns and very reliable, i wont own a mossberg the pump always seems to come loose and rattle, but its whatever you prefer
|
Let me start by saying that SEMI-AUTO is the way to go, WHY cause you can shot it fast & you don't have to remove it from your sight to rack it for the next shot, you can shoot it from the prone position without having to expose yourself by having to rack it for each shot. My SHTF shotgun is the two BENELLI M1 SUPER 90 with 18.5 inch barrel, RIFLE SIGHT, PISTOL GRIP, EXTENDED MAG TUBE, :yeah::tu::jump:

Bad guy doesn't the courtesy of a warning rack. If thought he was bad enough to break into my place to start, he can be badass enough to two what's coming without the warning sound. I know it's all about if you have kids and can safely keep a round loaded, but with myself, I can always have my personal protection weapon locked, cocked and ready to rock
|
I get along with you & mudstrokin, cause I don't have any daugthers:nope:

Was that to me or plmcrazy? Lol
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Yes I know, but too many ppl are over eager to rack a shell in the chamber, when in my eyes by not having it already chambered your fucking yourself out of an extra round. Not to mention to basically give the intruder your location. If it's a guy that's out to hurt you, your now at a disadvantage. Gave away your position. |

Sounds like the Saiga 12 is the perfect HD shot gun for what your looking for.
Any of the guns listed in here would make a good home gun. All in what you like best. Also there is a school of thought that IF you do use a "tactcool" gun in defence some scum of a lawyer can say you were a "Rambo" out looking for someone to shoot. Thats why my pistol is my first line of defence and my mossburg 500 is second. The Sagia is for when it gets real bad, its in the safe. Here is my Saiga... A quad rail is next on the list to hang a light and maybe a fore grip. With 10 rnd Mag Attachment 41741 With 20 rnd Drum Attachment 41742 Attachment 41743 Folded With 10 rnd Mag (Don't mind the mess, I'm in the middle of building a AK47 and some other guns and the Gun room is destroyed :D ) Attachment 41744 |

Like I said... I'm not sure were I stand on the warning rack... I see both sides having advantages. :humm:

Yes i have a .22 mag that is on my bedside loaded and ready. The shotgun will have one in the chamber as well. I also have a .410 mossberg by my front door, but i want something alot bigger.
I always fell you should have a gun within reach if not on you, but take it with you when you go to bed. |

Not exactly like that. :D While I feel that is SHOULD be how it goes, you need to cover your ass if possible.

I hear you. And if it comes to spending a long time in jail to protect my family so be it. I'm gonna try and prevent that though.
With that said, Lets not turn a "what kinda shotgun you like?" thread into anything more then that. :U: |

I see your guys points on the "warning rack" and other than being down one round, I hadn't thought of most of them. I have an extended mag tube on my 870 so having it chamber empty still leaves me with 7 rounds. Now that my sisters kids aren't running around my house anymore, I keep my 870 and my XD fully loaded with one in the chamber. My XD sits on my nightstand at night because its easier for me to get around the house with. My 870 still has the 28" hunting barrel on it, and with the way my house is setup, I come out of my room and there's the front door. Even with my adjustable stock in the shortest length, its still too long. That's why I practice with my pistol every chance I get.
PLMCRZY, have you thought about getting a concealed weapons permit and carrying a pistol? Then you'd have something on you at all times if/when you needed it. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Saigas are pretty neat but the only thing I can see having a problem with in a HD situation is the size of those mags, they're huge. I know that if I didn't run around my house and train with, I'd be catching it on all kinda of stuff. Yes, I realize that the 12ga shotshell if a big round but I think you'd be better off with a tube fed gun with a tube extension. Depending on the gun and extension size, 7-9 rounds of 00 buck should be plenty. Just my .02 But if you're all for capacity and a short overall length for a HD gun, you can't beat the 7+7+1 round count of the new Kel-Tec KSG. |
I have No problems with the mags. They hang straight down. You can also use the factory 5 round or buy a 8 rounder. I

The first being its slow rate of fire, the S12 has a much faster rate of fire in auto. I can fire my S12 in semi as fast as a AA 12 fires in full auto. Saiga 12 Semi-Auto vs Saiga 12 Full Auto AA12 Full Auto The auto saiga dumped 20 rnds in ~2 seconds, the AA12 in ~4-5 seconds. The second being that it fires from an open bolt. That can be a issue with mud, water, dirt, ect. Finally, its got ALOT of parts.... ALOT.... I would still buy one if we were allowed to have them... :D |

Could you point me to a site i can get some price quotes? Thats basically what i want. I also like the mossberg "cruiser". I have thought about turning my .410 into a home protection shotty but i want a little more.
gunbroker.com here is teh exact gun I bought. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=229434988 or http://www.tac47industries.com/produ...roduct_id=2343 or Rifles & Shotguns from... or some sites have them, you have to convert it your self if you want the pistol grips and what not, easy as hell. |
If you could afford it, they make small 870 shotguns now, 12 in barrels with pistol grips, must pay a federal tax stamp and pass a class 3 weapons check but itd be worth it
|
I do not have my concealed license, i dont know if i should really have one anyways. I carry a knife at all times. But they dont do good in a gun fight haha.
