other gun calibers
 

I am looking for other gun calibers that can take a deer down easily. But typically run cheap. Like a 30/30. I want something to carry in on my tractor while the season is open and I am doing firewood.
I can pick up 30/30s for under $200. that is my price range.

for what you are doing and your price range 30/30 sounds like a good way to go:tu:

I am just looking for other options that I may be able to use just in case I cant find a 30/30. they go fast around here

go with a .308 a way better caliber in my opinion..and just as easy to find ammo for.

how are they as far as price wise used?

.270- easy to find bullets
25.06- not so easy
22/250- if you are a good shot

They can all be found in the $2-300 range

this has to be a brush type gun. very rarely do you have a 100 yard shot around here. hilly and wooded. I have a 30.06 for that. just want a rifle with a little more range than a 12 gauge slug

Any of the 3 I list are perfict for that, or even a .243 or a .223 (but a .223 is expensive).

Just examples- youth guns are great brush guns and usually less expensive

the 223 is a little light for deer. as is the 22/250 and neither do well in brush. a 243 is ok but again I am looking for something with a little ass to punch through some brush.
what about 35? 45/70?

22/250 is a head shot gun. .270 would work very well, they are 100 yard guns to begin with.

There is nothing wrong with a 45/70 except the ease of finding bullets. I kind of have a theory, if you can't find the bullets at Walmart it's not a good hunting gun. I have a few guns that I have to go to a gun shop to find the bullets, those are great as novilties, but if you are hunting and regularly using the bullets, then it will suck having to go out of your way to find ammo. That's why for hunting it's good to go with the norm: 30.06, 30/30, .270, ect...
