Why Use a Slug Gun when you can use a 50 Caliber Rifle (Mussel Loader) with 150 Grain s of Powder , Drop a deer at 200 yards , no Slug guns going to do that

I don't think you can buy them new anymore, but if all you're wanting is a slug-chucker you may consider trying to find a Savage 210F bolt-action Slug Gun. Throw a 2-7 Leupold on top and watch the deer fall over from fright!

Guy at the shop has one and can put 5 Winchester Supreme's back into their box at 100 yds just shooting off a straw bale.

I could see it with a rifled barrel, modern sabot'ed slugs, and good glass but transferring that kind of accuracy from the range to the deer woods is story #2.

The Hornady SSTs are the "long range" slug, but not all guns will shoot them well. With my Mossberg 695 bolt action, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with them and my buddy shoots them through a Remington 11-87 and can put 5 rounds in the bottom of a soda can at 125 yards with them.

DieselMinded, you are right about the muzzleloader, but I want more shots than one, if i need them.

If he can shoot a 5 shot soda can bottom sized pattern at 125 yards with a slug then that must really be some good ammo

That accuracy comes at a price, ths e SST slugs are expensive. I rarely shoot much over 125 yards anyways.

I dropped a doe from 172yds according to my Laser Range Finder. Hornady SST's outta a Winchester 1300 Rifled Slug Barrel, aimed 4-5 inches high and let it fly. Doe ran about 40 yds and dropped right next to the hedgerow, so it can be done. I wouldn't have had a problem if she was 200yds out, but past that you're pushing it. A muzzle loader isn't any better.

Honestly, I would go with an 870 just because of the aftermarket. I HATE cantilever barrels, but to each his own. If you want something nicer try finding a nice used Browning BPS, gorgeous guns.
