Sounds like my brother's old Ruger 77 in .25-06. Pop can at 100 yds had nothing to worry about. I'm sure the 15 lb trigger has something to do with that. I've owned several Rugers. Blackhawks, Super Blackhawks, Mini-14's, 10-22's, No.1's. Sold them all. The revolvers and 10-22 were OK. The Mini's were fun, so long as you didn't actually expect to hit anything. The No.1 was a huge steaming pile.

 

#1's seem to fall into three groups.

1) Tack Drivers

2) Decent groups.

3) Complete and utter rubbish turd paper.


Problem is, you never know for sure which one you get until after to spend nearly a grand on a single shot rifle with damn near zero resale after it's shot....They're pretty, but not much else...

All that aside, gunman if you miss your Redhawk just go buy another one in .44 Magnum for under $450 to kill boars with, and enjoy your 85, which is sure to go up in value soon, especially with multiple high cap mags.

I've always enjoyed shooting single-shot rifles. I have a Stevens Favorite 1915 in .32 rim-fire my late grandpa gave me 20 years ago. It's a joy to shoot and a hellofa squirrel gun, but ammo is near impossible to find, so I bought a new model Stevens 30G in .22 magnum. It's a good shooter, but just not quite the same as grandpa's old .32.

Every deer I've shot has been with a .50 cal muzzle-loader, (except for the bruiser I got this fall. That was done with a crossbow), and even my bolt-action repeaters are usually just single-loaded, with extra cartridges carried on the side of the stock in one of those stretchy carriers.

If I ever drop the coin for another single-shot rifle, it will be for either a H&R Ultra Hunter for less than 3 hundred bucks or a Sharps 1874 for as much as 3 grand (or more). After a certain Socialist's inauguration here in a few days, single-shots may be the only rifles we are allowed to own.

 

HI dieseldude03, The 480 RUGER new owner is bitching & crying about paying $25 a box of 20 rounds, and he said it recoils hard, he he he, I never though it did.

 

Good trade Like said above if you miss the ruger get one in a 44mag for hunting.

 

Feller at the shop paid big money for a .460 S&W Mag. Ran one cylinder through it and sent it down the road! Said it had so much recoil and muzzle rise, the hammer would bite into his arm every time he touched-off a round! BTW, he's 6'-0", 200lbs.

 

Hey guys, I bought a CLARK MINI-14 target kit, CLARK said I will be able to get 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I know MINI-14 are known for 6 to 8 inch groups at 100 yards, but I have a blue MINI-14 with a DAT mil-break and it will shoot 2 to 3 inch groups, I bought this stainless steel MINI-14 about 6 years, and I have never shot it, so I will put the CLARK MINI-14 target kit on this brand new MINI-14. I still have some big kicking revolvers, I own a S & W 629 44mag, two S & W 657 41 mag, BFR 45-70, and the bigest, badest revolver S & W 500 MAG, I'm only 5'8.5" 165 pounds and I shoot the S & W 500 MAG and then I laugh at all these HELL ANGEL (want a be) 350 pounds bad-*** that cry like a little school girl after firing the 500 mag
