Default new 1911

i bought another 1911. i stopped by the gun shop the other night and the guy told me he had something to show me. what he pulled out was a springfield armory 1911. It has been ceracoated sniper gray on the frame and slide with a black nitride coating on the barrel and bottom front of the slide where it tapers. It has hogue wrap around grips with finger grooves, extended beavertail safety, extended slide release, extended safety, skeletonized hammer and trigger, all of which are black. It's had an action job and it's got a trophy match rod under the barrel (don't really know what this does to help accuracy). It also has adjustable sights. i couldn't quit looking at it. i had to call them tuesday morning and tell them to put it behind the counter and i would be there to get it shortly.

i shot this one a little bit friday evening. the trigger is very nice and slightly over 4 pounds with minimal creep. it put 8 shots in a 1 3/4 inch group at 20 yards off-hand. i thought that was pretty good and should only get better.

i was shooting some federal 230 gr. fmj's friday. They are very dirty. within the first 25-30 rounds the front of the slide was coated in powder residue. i shot some winchesters out of my other 1911 and they were the same way. the hornady critical defense 185 gr. loads i shot seem to be very clean. i've got some 230 gr. hornady ftx bullets to load. i would like to get some cfe pistol powder to try. i have been shooting the cfe 223 in my 22-250 for the last year and loves them. it's pushing a 40 gr. nosler ballistic tip at 4102 fps out of a remington 700 vtr.It is amazingly clean also.
