Question Sighting in awinnie 1894.

Hello all! I'm re-sighting in my pre 82 winnie 94 w/side scope. It's been 3 years since I've had a chance to shoot it (the joys of active duty military ). I am looking for help as to what range I should start at and basically how any of you would sight your own in. I'll be starting with 170gr flat winchester to get on paper @ 25yd. Then I'll be switching to Hornady Leverevolution 160gr with the hopes of 200yds (or 3in high @100yd). All help would be usefull as I need to fill my freezer with venison!

i start at 25 yards and get the windage correct, then maybe leave it 1 inch high from the bulls eye, then I move to 75 yards and confirm point of impact then got to 100 yards. For a 30-30 I would leave it 100 and practice hold over at various ranges unless you think you need to be zeroed at another range. But make sure you confirm your zero with the ammunition you plan to use so their is no surprises when you got to make the shot. But remember with scopes up means bring point of impact up (cross hairs move down) and Right means move point of impact to the right (moves cross hairs left) you may know this but just makin sure. Goof luck

I usually boresight first, then take it out to verify. Mostly for me its 50 yds to start, then up from there. Im pretty **** about bullet placement.....something instilled in me during my time in Special Response Team as a POPO. (Aim for the eyeball)

Go out and have fun and give your barrel time to cool, dont be blasting shot after shot do five shots and let it cool then go again. You can boresight it if you have a borsight laser kinda hard to stare down the barrel of a lever action. But 25 yards is a good place to start Ive had times where at 50 yards I did not hit a 12'' X 12'' target. Im the same about bullet placement if I was off .25 moa I would miss all the prarie dogs at 500 yards..
