Default water methanol vs intercool

Who here has water/meth and what advatages does this give vs intercool? What will temps be as far as EGTs go? HP gains? does this reduce logevity of the engine? affordability? Mileage gains? i know that alot of questions but i need more opinions here. Thanks!

i put water meth on my old obs powerstroke,non-intercooled, instead of an intercooler, and it worked great, i used straight water when i was towing and it definately keep my egts in check, when i used windsheild wiper fluid it gave it a real kick in the ***. i didn't use it for mileage or anything tho.

but as a cheap and easy intercooler alternative i thought it was great.

now i have my intercooled cummins and it works great too but i am still thinking i will add a water meth kit as well.

depends on your mix of water/meth, windsheild washer fluid is rated right on the bottle.

I run it on my 90 I use the Boost Juice from Snow and as far as power WOW pulling a hill full spray ( 2 550CC jets) @ 15-30PSI boost it pulls way harder

Milage went up +2 MPG (after the first tank of W/M )

I run a I/C in my 90 as well and I have seen NO EGT drop but then again I need more water the boost juice is a 50/50

Chad....

Temperature....... % of Methanol to Water
20 deg F ....................13%
0 deg F .....................24%
-15 deg F..................... 35%
-40 deg F .................... 46%

So i would basically have to run straight water to cool EGTs while towing? And run a mix when i want power gains, not towing? And to install would i just have to put the spray nozzle(s) in my crossover tube? Or would the grid heater affect it? definately sounds like it is well worth it and the kits can be had for a reasonable price. Thanks

I dont run grids so IDK on that but I just drilled the intake horn
I would never run just water no less than a 90W/10M mix
I am fond of the boost juice I have a 5 gal tank on mine next batch will be 3 gal BJ to 2 gal water

i ran straight water for egts and never had a problem.

just make sure you get a good size tank, it can be surprising how much fluid you can go though

You don't need to fill up a intercooler tank every couple hundred miles...

If you do use water to cool it I've heard to use distilled water and not straight water. I assume it has to do with the minerals in tap water and corrosion of parts. Never run any kinda water set-up though.

To answer your question sufficiently is more info needed.
Are you running your truck below 5 to 7 psi boost pressure?

Why 5 to 7 psi ?

It's the pressure limit when the Intercooler starts to drop a bigger temperature decrease than a non intercooled engine.( posting the comp chart tomorrow!)
It is the magical limit when you can get away without the expense of an intercooler.
The intercooler removes the thermal stress that would otherwise be seen by the engine.

Old rule of the thumb:

Every degree you drop the intake air temperature you will also drop the EGT's about the same amount. Assume an turbo compressor outlet temperature of maximum 400° and drop it with the I/C down to 150°. This would result in a (steady) engine relieve of 250° in EGT's, providing a long engine life.

Why not combine the best of both worlds?

IC + water/meth, and getting the x-tra omph?

Don't forget: Cold air alone does not give you power. Fuel + air = Power
