They do a pretty good rattlesnake impression though. They will curl up and hiss with their mouth. It sounds kind of like a rattler. Biggest difference is a rattlesnake holds its tail up to shake its rattles. A bullsnake will beat its tail against the ground to make more noise.
They spit too. They are nonvenomous but a bite from one can still make you sick because of all the bacteria in their mouth.

Do you have "praire rattlers" where you're at? Those are angry little bastards.
Yeah. I have a good sized prairie dog town about 100 yards from my front door so I see a few. Bullsnakes, rattlers and Garters are all pretty common. They say you can find Cottonmouths down by the river but I've never seen any.
