Not all goes easy. It looks like we are lifting the cylinder head due to combustion pressure.

Question is dos someone had this same problem before on a 92 series Detroit Diesel and how did they solve it?
Are these engines used for semi truck pulling, maybe we can find some info there?

We are looking into ARP head studs as well but with only 4 bolts per cylinder this will can be problematic as most of the thing we tune have 6 or more head studs and use a edge knife sealing for the combustion chamber.

Are you using the shims that go on the side of the block on each side of the head ? And what height or you shimming the fire ring at ?

It took some time but we got this project back on the track. We now have new injectors that can do 0,8cc per injection @ 1800Bar rail pressure according to the test sheet and we can increase this a lot more if we want. Also the return fuel to operate the injectors is very low not eating away fuel capacity from the hi pressure fuel pump reducing power takeoff for the fuel pump.
Also with a injector shaft of only 22.1mm it will fit in most cylinderheads.

Theoretical we can make close to 400Hp per injector @ 3000RPM on a 4stroke engine.
We know of other test that we can run 40% more fuel efficient with PDE injectors compared to conventional injection pumps like BOSCH and Sigma due to the hi quality of diesel injection and the nozzle type used we expect to make the same efficiency numbers with the commonrail injectors.
It all sounds great but there is a down side and that’s cost and power takeoff for the hi pressure pump. Power takeoff on the V12 this is not a problem due to a very heavy aux outputs that runs about the same RPM as the crank so we can get the max out of this fuelpump but to convert from a hi flow low pressure fuel injection pump to a commonrail systems can be problematic if the fuelpump drive it not upgraded and set-up to correct RPM

A small update. New commonrail injector are fitted and today we did the first idle run.
Some part of the commonrail system have to be upgraded to meet the safety standards.

Next week we hope to load test the engine.

Enjoy.

We got the V12 2stroke running for a short time on the dyno and went up to 2100Nm and 230Kw to get some data. OK not a lot as the goal is 1500Kw+

As you can see in the youtube movie there is a lot of smoke coming from the engine, that’s coolant and diesel as we had some problems with the injector tubes leaking @ start-up.

Also running more power was to dangerous as we did not had valve covers on the engine and I don’t want to start an oil fire.

Madden run Team FTF GM 92 series V12 2 stroke commonrail.

This is the first run with limited power and the general idea is to present the truck to the public after one year not entering truck pulling events.

Due to various problems around the engine we did not have the time to load test the engine more than 230Kw and only 5 minutes before we enter this event we had it running again.

There is still a lot of work to do as I think the nozzle of the commonrail injector dos not work on the 2 stroke engine @ low boost and fuel rail pressure.
The idea is to run it some time under load on a dyno and than have a look @ the combustion chamber.
It clear that the diesel spray is hitting a cold surface in the combustion chamber and with a bit of luck we get it done by lifting or lowering the injector in the injector tube.
Also to play it save we run only 600Bar fuel pressure and that’s to low for this type of injector.
