My 12 Valve
Update Alert!!!
Well guys finally got to dump all my money into the beast and i got a lot of showin and tellin to do. My old crummy engine finally took a dump on me. It been burnin water as well as lettin some into the oil since i bought it and i knew it was a matter of time before a major failure. Rod bearing went out. But now was my chance to build this thing how i have always wanted to. I had another block sittin around that i used. Upon teardown i had my head magnafluxed and found it had 3 cracks in it. Not sure what caused it but im assuming a previous owner probably didnt follow the torque sequence. Rod bearings and water don't mix and its suprising it lasted as many years as it did. So i ended up spending around $8,000 on this whole project. I did all the work except had the machine shop assemble the short block. Had the block balanced and it is sooo nice. Wouldn't believe how smooth a 12 valve can run with some percision machine work. I can put a glass of water on it and it wont move. I HIGHLY recommend it. Only cost 174 bucks to balance it and it was worth every penny. Here is the master list of everything done:
-Block: bored .20 over, decked, fully balenced (balancer, pistons, rods, crank, flexplate)
- Stage 3 Colt Cam w/ 24V lifters (Dyno results on my buddies truck showed this cam made the truck hit peak HP 300 rpms sooner then stock and a massive EGT drop ~200%)
- HD laminated flexplate
- .20 over Cummins pistons
- Brand new head cast locally by Portland Cast Products, o-ringed, port and polish (~10 hours of actuall machine work which i would consider almost as much as you should go on a street truck)
- 4K gsk and valve springs
- rebuild kit with all gaskets
- New oil pressure sensor, water temp sensor and TPS
- Timing at 19* with thicker injector washers
- New stock lift pump
- HTT exhaust manifold
- already had all AFC mods done
- head studs
- timing case (kdp fell out on previous owner and he JB welded it)
- water pump & oil pump
- manual shutoff
- starter
- Intercooler boots and clamps
Thats all i can think of but there was a lot off other little things. Went through a ton of brake clean, rtv, and loctite. Loctited every small bolt within the engine and timing case. It was a lot of work but i learned a ton and the thing runs amazing. Super cool egts. Only have 300 miles on it so i havent put my foot into yet but im sure that will be a fun day. So now when i get more money i can finally put some injectors and turbo(s) on it. Well here is some pictures of the whole process. Enjoy!
Teardown!

Carnage.

Old engine stripped down.

Little crack.

All three cracks.

New head.

O-ringed.

P&P

New engine.

Pump stripped.

In the truck. Red, white and blue baby.

Thats all i got for now. Still have to track down some pics of it all painted still on the engine stand as well as fully installed in the truck. I also have a first start video i need to get from my friend which will be up soon. If you guys got any questions of how i did anything ill be glad to answer.
