Paint thinner is made to reduce down enamel paints, but in today's world of urethane paints it is used as a general cleaner. Reducer performs the same task in urethane as thinner in enamel. Thinner on plastic lights has a tendency to cause tiny spiderweb cracks inside the plastic which can destroy your lights to a point of no-repair.

What the pros out there smoking heads and tails do is make a candy coat of black by mixing small amounts of black urethane with larger amounts of urethane clear coat. The mixture is then applied in multiple coats to reach the desired effects.

If you do not have access to paint, compressed air, and guns you can simply suffice with a spray can of black sprayed in small, even amounts to reach desired intensity. Simply top off with aerosol clear coat and then wet sand/buff as needed.

I agree go to advanced auto and buy the nightshade it works excelent I have used it on many diffrent lights and it always turns out good. Be careful though I know the cops in MN are really cracking down on some of my buddys who have their lights to dark I usually only do about 3 coats on my lights so plenty of light still shines through

Yep got a ticket for them here in Virginia. But a little brake parts cleaner on a rag and they were back to stock in no time. Just have to take picture of before and after so OI can get out of the ticket.

I had a can of Pactra RC Car Lacquer Paint Window Tint left over from an R/C body I painted. I scuffed the lenses with ultra fine and paper and put on 3 coats.

I used VHT nightshades with several coats then went back with a couple coats of clear coat the next day and it turned out very well.

This is an old pic but the best one I have when I had them. I went to recons after gettting a ticket for "no relectors".
