i had a GOOD once last night....truck sat all day, -10 to -15 deg all day, sat for like 7 hrs, i challenged myself, and attempted to start without grid heaters, needless to say, i had to use em, at least partially, to start the truck, started REAL ROUGH and went into 3 cyl a min later, was on 3 cyl 20 min later when i came back out.
