Any engine will self destruct in a similar way if the valves are bad enough out of spec, no mater what brand.

correct me if im wrong but dont the duramax's like the power stroke's do not have adjustable valves, they are hydraulic tappets which hydraulically make the correct valve lash... i know there not adjustable so i don't see how you can have a bad valve adjustment with them. looks like the old engine may have dropped a valve seat? Do the aluminum heads have steel inserts on the exhaust side?

P.S. Cummins is the only engine (out of dodge chevy and ford) that has a mechanical adjustment. But like i said correct me if im wrong
