It's a two part system. The first part is a cleaner that works really well. Get yourself some coarse carpet samples and use those to scrub the aluminun. It takes some work but it cleans up a lot faster than mothers or some of the other metal polishes. After the cleaner use the polish, again with one of the carpet samples. It took me the better part of 3 hours to clean up my tool box but I hadn't polished it in 2+ years, plus diamond plate is a pain to work with. After I was done it stayed looking like new for at least 3 months, and my truck sits outside in the weather all year.

Guys i think your mixing up 2 different products , the aluminum one is

ROUGH SURFACE POLISHING KITS
For hard to polish, irregular surfaces.
Also works on polished smooth surfacesHow to do it right, the lazy man's way:
Start by washing and drying the aluminum you want to polish.
Spray with the Aluminum Polishing Prep to chemically remove stains and oxidation.
Apply the Magic Mix Metal Polish using one of the wool Magic Mix Polishing Pads, working in all directions until all the aluminum is a uniform black. Let the polish dry to a light gray, then wrap a soft cloth over a clean pad and buff to a high shine. Easier on knuckles
Follows contours
Produce a superior polish job with less time and effort
MAGIC MIX Aluminum Rough Surface Polishing tool box kit Tool Box kit includes: Handy, snap-lid carrying case 16 oz. Magic Mix Metal Polish 16 oz. Magic Mix Aluminum Polishing Prep 4 Magic Mix Polishing Pads MAGIC MIX Aluminum Rough Surface Polishing Poly-Bag Kit Poly-Bag Kit includes 8 oz. Magic Mix Metal Polish 8 oz. Magic Mix Aluminum Polishing Prep 4 Magic Mix Polishing Pads 4 MAGIC MIX Polishing Pads, wool

DM is correct, same company different product. Sorry if any confusion, the rough surface polish does work really really well for tool boxes.
