My 1990 DODGE Project Restoration PICS!
2 Attachment(s)
After searching for a first gen I finally brought one home. I've owned it for a little while now but my back issue and the previous owner being out of town took me a while to pick it up.
1990 W250 LE 5.9 CTD 160K Im the 3rd owner, Truck was bought at our local dealership and still has the window sticker. It has Pyro, Fuel pressure, Boost and trans temp gauges in it. New injection pump within the last year from Daves Diesel in Angola, IN with it turned up a little (not sure exactly) larger injector tips (not sure) and a larger turbo (not sure exactly). It was a farm truck but still taken care of and kept inside. It is in need of a transmission (auto) thats the reason the guy decided to sell. Not bad I think for $1400 Im still pretty excited about it! Im going to restore it to its off the showroom floor condition with a few mods along the way. Nothing major just to make it a fun classic to have and cruise around in. It will end up a complete W350, no color picked out yet but Im thinking either Metallic electric blue or the Metallic graphite gray. I know its ugly at the moment.... whats the bar on the front for? The bar is used for pulling the truck, when going from field to field with the tractor and nobody to follow in a truck the PO pulled the truck behind the tractor. I pulled it home like this (bad trans) and it worked great! Ian |
id guess towing it home as the trans is toast in it?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- damn a day late and a dollar short! hey Ian.....at least the exhaust is already done on it LMFAO! :gayflag: |
id fix the tranny and drive it like that, looks good to me..........he cooked the tranny by not putting the t-case in neutral.......he put the tranny in neutral and baked it......
was the truck from ohio.......i see he got his mud flaps from ohio atleast......smart man..... |
he towed it in neutral (trans and T-case) and its how I brought it home, Supposidly the trans was re-built earlier this year and he thinks the TC is split as you can pour fluid in and its comes right out the bottom. It let go hauling his two oliver pulling tractors.
Were 8 miles from Ohio, the flaps are from the big truck service in Fayette, OH.... Im sure its where he got the pipes from as well! Zach your right the pipes will come off and stay off!! |
cool what r u gonna run for exhaust on it?
|
5" out the back corner, Nothing over the top, Id like to to stay stock looking, Ill throw on some nice aluminum dually wheels when the day comes but that will be about it for exterior mods.
I put the pillar gauge pod in today for a lil 10 min job. Torched the bed bolts and hacked the stupid exhaust off. Ive got a backhoe comming Monday to pull the bed. |
Ian I think that is the stock H1C turbo. Actually I'm positive it is. Get you a GDS 60mm upgrade (Aboust $200) and let her eat!

Bobby, I chatted with him again, when at Daves diesel they changed the impellers... I dont know to what and neither did he. Any idea how to check?
In a act to clean up my photobucket I moved a bunch of pics and now I cant edit my post but Ill add some more later:U: Attachment 54906 Attachment 54907 Attachment 54908 Attachment 54909 Attachment 54910 Attachment 54911 Attachment 54912 Attachment 54913 |
I dont know how much you can improve with just an impeller change. Still a small housing. Dont get me wrong the Stock H1C can hold its own as long as you are not towing a huge load. :U:
You can measure the wheel and that will tell you what you have. Also keep your eye out for a HX35 to toss in there! |

a 35 eh.... what about the downpipe... a 35 or will the H1c work?
Im a photo whore and had a couple free min this morning Attachment 54877 Attachment 54878 Attachment 54879 |
You should use the 35 DP. With a little massaging it should fit. On the other hand you can find a H1E for little money (mine was free) and hybrid it to your Stock H1C.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Oh and the 1st gen needs cab lights :D |

yanked the flat bed off.
Sucker did NOT want to come off! I had my fabricator come by and torch the bolts last week and a buddy come by with his backhoe.... we picked the rear of the truck off the ground tring to get it off. Finally up off the ground about 1' he shook the bucket and it came loose. Thankfully not smacking the cab:yeah: she looks naked Attachment 54811 Attachment 54812 |
Its so good to see a first gen getting a total restoration instead of landing up in the junk yard because the body rusted of...Keep up the good work IC...:ok1::U::5:

Thanks Bobby! ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Thanks bud! I know! Ive seen wayyyy to many with a early death this summer with the high scrap prices! I wish I would have chased a couple trucks down had I known I was going to get into this project. None yet, We got hammered with snow so Ive been pushing show and hauling it away the past few days. I doubt Ill touch it till after the 1st. Im going to pull the spare cab out and start on that (fixing the flaws) Then hopefully it will warm up a little and Ill be able to get my 01 out of the barn and wheel the 90 in to start tearing it apart:U: Stay tuned! This is just the plaxtic center section of teh grill. Looks like your missing one. |
