Finished Building My Stacks Today. *PICS*
I wanted to make a set of stacks that matched my '07 alloy wheels. Upon closer inspection I realized that the wheels are pretty much just bare aluminum that was bead blasted and clear coated.
Here's what I came up with. I ended up using some 5.5" OD aluminum tubing. I thought it was a nice medium since 6" was marginally too big for my taste, and 5" looked too small.
Mockup to make sure I like the miter angle and the start of the cover box.
Here's the adaptors I made to weld onto my crossover pipe.
Crossover pipe with the adaptors welded in place. Obviously it's not the prettiest peice ever, but noone will ever see it.
Here it is mocked up in the truck.
The next day I got started on the box. Yea, I rolled some coal that night.

The main reason for the box was to give my tonneu cover something to seal on. I have plans to cut it down 9" and perminently mount it. I wanted to see how it fit though, so I tested it out. Looks sexy.
Then I came back to school and decided to finish them off in class today.
I tapered the ends of the miters so that they looked like thinwall tube. The sch40ish stuff I had was all I could find.

Then I added about 10 coats of clear engine enamel and wetsanded them. They match well I think.
Then I painted the box in textured mettalic black and installed the stacks, straight this time.
After a little test run/play time, I had to break something. It's only natural.
On the way home my lift pump bit the dust for the 3rd time. I swapped in another one and started saving for an Airdog or FASS setup. I'm tired of replacing them.
