custom drive shaft

Default custom drive shaft

I have a bent rear drive shaft on my 94 dodge 2500, and want to weld new tube on, but cant find a place that sells tubing for that purpouse. Anybody know where is good place to buy tubing, or knows which type of steel is used. any help would be appreciated.

You need a piece of driveshaft tubing, here is a Dana-Spicer distributor locator. Distributor Locator Now i highly reccomend you use that locator to find a shop that can retube your driveshaft for you. I mean no disrespect, but the chances of you welding the yokes into the new tube and getting it straight enough to have it balanced are slim to none.

The truck is off road only, and i have lathe to true yoke. so i figure i can do my own with the right tube. Ballancing will not be needed for a ranch truck.

Well as long as straightness is not an issue, just click the link and you should be able to find someplace halfway local that can sell you some tubing.

Drive shaft tubing is DOM seamless tubing. Usually any machine shop can get it. Our locla International truck dealer has a drive shaft shop so you may check any heavy truck dealers in your area. My 4" for my rear shaft was $4 per inch.

99% of the driveshaft tubing found in medium duty and lighter applications is rolled and welded driveline tubing, not DOM. DOM for anything smaller than say 1710 series is more or less over kill. Your local international shop is probably overpriced on tubing because international dealers have access to spicer parts through international. A mom and pop driveline/machine shop that buys direct from spicer will probably have much friendlier pricing than any heavy truck dealer ship buying through an OEM. While im sure international is paying less than your average Dana-Spicer warehouse distributor, by the time they make money selling the parts to the dealer ship and the dealer ship makes money selling the stuff to you there is and extra set of hands in the cookie jar so the price becomes inflated. If you can tell me what size tube you bought, i can tell you what the local driveline shop here local to me would sell it for. I promise you its ALOT less than $4 per inch. $4 an inch sounds higher than even list price.

Listen to this fella, hes done plenty of my driveshafts in the shop for us. All true and balanced. Off road or not, you want it done right.

i would not want my drive shaft or u joints breaking while im off road id have it done right i got my whole shaft done for 160 carrier bearing 3 u joints painted and balanced
