I know the cat dealerships had a program down here at TSTC that was similar. I know that they would pay for your school, provide you with uniforms and tool allowance and you worked for them while in school. Then you had to work for them for like four years. I know several guys that went through it and loved it now they are out of their contracts and work as ind. mechanics and making dang good money.

I went to ohio technical for diesel school learned alot now im at a shop that I continue learning all kinds of diesels. only concern I have with cat is they are only maintaining their own stuff. to me that gets a little boring after a while.
when I talked to cat initially they want to have you work where they have an opening and to me I didnt want to travel so it was kinda out of the question.

You're looking for opinions here so I'll throw mine out. The Cat Program is a great way to go. It's a good solid program with a known leader in the industry. If you are serious about learning and doing this for a living and it's close enough to your location, I don't see how you could go wrong with it. There is a need for diesel and heavy equipment technicians and this is a great way to break into the business if you are serious about it.
My thoughts here.

Thanks Ken for your opinion And Kind Words I really appreciate it. I'm doing as much as I possibly can to make myself the most knowledgeable and useful technician I can be. I'm currently enrolled in welding school to be WABO certified in FCAW,GTAW and SMAW.

 

dnt know about schools but follow what you love

 

im doin the same thing but im lookin at community colleges some offer great diesel programs and there cheap(compared to other schools) also you oughta get your class a licence i did and it makes you more valueble

 

Caterpillar is a top notch corporation as far as customer service and support, so I would imagine they are top notch as far as thier school goes also. Good Luck

 

I am looking into the Think Big program as well, but I'm kinda working backwards to you. i worked welding Cat bulldozer and truck parts for a long time, so im actually gonna try my best to round out my knowledge. i hear you when you say while you're young to get as much knowledge as possible. youll have to let me know how everything goes, so i can follow.

 

Apparently it isnt easy to get in over here,you have to be sponsored by a dealer and theyre full and everybody wants to get in.But I'm still trying my hardest.In the meantime I got a job at a Gehl Dealer,So Im learning alot.
