Used Compressors ??
Looked at a 60 gallon used one tonight (Husky). Its a decent price.
BUT, its been sitting for 5-6 years and to guy doenst have 220V so I cant really check it out. Im going to try to run it on 120V tomorrow.
Are there any concerns with buying this? Im mainly wondering about the pump sitting that long.
Do any of you guys work with or know compressors?
Any advice/insite would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you have access to a huge 400V capacitor? If you can generate a phase shift of 90° in advance(capacitor) you might be able to start that compressor without load on one single power line outlet...
It won't run on a single 110V line. Is it a three phase unit?
With the capacitor you can run it on two phases on a single power line. It does sound difficult, but it works.
Can you trace any outside corrosion? If not, get it...
Just drop a teaspoon of oil into it -crank it without power to prevent sticking rings on internal rust. Then fire it up.

No access to the cap. Its just a single phase unit.
A buddy of mine told me to do this - turn it by hand and then drain oil and take a look at it. Then if it will start check for blowby at the oil fill plug.
I dont think its rusted out - hes had the drain open so any moisture or condensation can drain out.
I also dont think this compressor has had a lot of use. Looks brand new.

Sounds like a pretty good sized unit.
Good choice! I have a dual filter set up behind the compressor and a refrigerant dryer behind the compressor. It makes use of the compressed air e.g.for painting very easy.
No need to use those oiless compressors(I still don't trust those teflon O-rings).
Can't you ask to bring it back if it doesn't work?
Let me know, if you want a combined pressure regulator and moisture trap filter.(good military stuff)
