Default 1994 cummmins should i buy or not?

This guy up the road from me has a buy here pay here lot and i noticed he had a 1994 cummins that he just got in so i stopped in to check it out and it has 220k miles its a single cab automatic and he wants 4000$ so i decided to get a closer look and everything works on it i would say the interior is about a 6-7 out of a 10 and the paint was a 7-8 out of a 10 (considering how old it is) it has some fade in the back of the roof and at the very front of the hood other then that its not got any major fade or dents ... but now on to the engine he said that its leaking oil at the front of the truck because it needs the oil filter changed and he said he would do that his self before selling it and that is something that worried me a little but only a little because it was only leaking while the truck was running and the truck runs great and drove like a new one far as driving and shifting went it was perfect and the only other issue i noticed was something was squealing a little bit not super loud or anything actually pretty faint over the loud diesel motor but basically I'm just asking does it sound like this is a fair price i haven't ever owned a cummins but my neighbor has one with 360k miles and hasn't had any issued with it any input is greatly apreciated

but on another note how are these trucks in power i really didnt get on it to hard with me just test driving it and knowing it was leaking oil ... I had a 1996 powerstroke and loved the power im just wondering how the v6 cummins hangs to the v8 ford

I'd say thats a good price, not that I wouldn't try and haggle him down. Oil leak could be cracked case from kdp, try and pinpoint it before making a deal, that might be a good point to bring price down some. Drive it and make sure trans isn't on it's last legs.

you would know.... haha

the leak could just be the timing cover loosening up.. seen that happen a lot, tighten the bolts and yer good to go.

Please open the hood again so you can see that a Cummins is not a V-6. Its a straight six and it makes just as much power as your old powerstroke.

It worries me when I see people do that. If someone doesnt know a Cummins is an I-6, its probably best they dont get one. Either that or they better be prepared to start learning.

I think they just call every 6 banger a V-6 and don't realize the V comes from the shape of the block
