Default not sure what to buy

So im looking for a used truck around the 16k range preferably under that. I will be towing a
8-9k camper with it. most of the trucks in that range have around 100k-170k miles on them. With that milage i want something reliable. I also want something with decent mpg's as well when not towing. The body reliability is important as well.

I am looking at the 7.3 and 6.0 powerstrokes. From what i have heard the 03-05 6.0's are crap?
As for dodge, I have heard great things about cummins but its attached to a dodge. I had a 98 1500 5.9 and hated it exp the tranny.
The duramax i don't know a lot about.

any suggestions would be great thanks.

If you get a Ford, for that price range, stay with a 7.3. You can "fix" a 6.0 its just going to cost you some money up front.

If you get a Dodge, stay with a manual tranny. Their biggest weakness is their auto tranny's.

If you get a Duramax, get at least an 06. The earlier ones had injector (01-04 LB7) and head gasket/overheating (04-05 LLY) problems.

I realy cant say to many good things about a 6.0L I have a F 350 Dully its been gettin 10mpg tops. It does have a flat bed and its a crew cab. I am a cummins lover, but I still love ford bodies. Your gonna have to go test drive some and see what you like. Cummins is by far the cheapest and easiest to repair and are damn reliable if you get a good one. To just be a teaser you guys know what FORD stands for (Ford Owners Recomend Dodge) or For Only Redneck Drivers!!! The 6.0L I have is an 05 and weve had it ever since new and its just been problem with problem with problem. Ive been told you can make them reliable I just havent seen one for my self. But I wish I could just run a dump money into mine and see for my self but with hay at the price it is now its not gonna happen for a while. and in all honesty If i had not found the Cummins I have now I would have bought a ford 7.3L but I have driven all the late 90's and ealry 2000 -2007 diesels and Cummins just has the best response. For Duramaxs I have never felt like they were made to pull anything past 5K , but I would take your trailer to what ever truck you wanna test drive and see how it pulls!!!! I knew of a good 2002 Dodge 6 speed with 120k was my neighbor and he only wanted 13K for it. Wish I had the money wouldve bought it. Good luck lookin for a truck if you gotta question about any truck let us know!!! some one here will be able to help you out.
