Default Ford 6.4 vs Dodge 2006 with a 6 speed

I know this topic has been beaten to pieces, but no one has really said anything about the 6 speed manual. I am looking at these two trucks. I am not planning on doing a lot of Mods. If I got the Ford I would do the deleats but not much other than that to start. I know everyone has an opinion about thses two trucks but which one will last longer and get better gas milage.

You're not going to find a 6.4 Powerstroke with a 6 speed behind it if thats what you're asking. At heart Im a Ford guy, but I'm going to say the Cummins. The Ford with deletes will get good mileage, but not as good as a 5.9 Cummins. And with the deletes I believe a 6.4 can be reliable, but I've still seen more 5.9's with higher mileage.

Heck, a few months ago, if it was a question of power, it would have been a 6.4 hands down, but now that EFI live is out for the Cummins, and I've seen a 526hp tune only 5.9, I'm not so sure there either.

Thanks for the info. I guess a better way to ask this question is having a 6 speed on a dodge worth 4000$ more than a ford 6.4 almost everything else being equal.

my vote would be for the dodge. Ive had my 06 w/6spd for almost a year now with almost 25k on it will almost no problems except for brakes and ac compressor.

As far as stock power the only time i felt my dodge was lacking power was with 22 rolls of corn stalk on a 40' gooseneck.

I recommend a dodge because I've seen to many 6.4s that have been rebuilt or been sent to salvage because they couldn't hold up. Yes a cummins can meet the same fate

Hell if I could get a 6 spd stick in a Chevy or a ford(350or250) with a inline engine I would buy that or recommend that. We also own 2 dmaxs so I'm not just a dodge guy.

Also what is the mileage and package differences between the two trucks.

Yes more info on both trucks. Place a link to the adds if you can. The 6.4 with deletes and Spartan tuning can hit 550HP. They are power houses once you do the deletes. For the Cummins to be $4k more it better have alot done. I got my 07 Dodge for $22k with a 6spd so I cant imagine a 6.4 being $18K haha.

Thanks for all the imfomation. It looks like the dodge I was looking at has been sold. Could someone send me towards a thread that explains the biacs of programing a ford. What all a programing it does. I am really new at all this stuff.

Spartan is your best bet for a tuner. The 210 tune is the tow/DD tune most people use, and they have performance tunes such as 250hp, 275hp, 310hp, and 350hp. The tuner allows you to delete off the DPF and DOC without throwing codes also.

I would invest in a EGR delete before too long also. Just to be safe, and its also much healthier on the engine.
