The most bullet proof one is a 12v. The nice thing about the Dodges is that any problem has already been identified and there is an easy fix for them all. The great thing about the Cummins is that every motor has parts from the last. Its not like Ford where they change the motor every year with something completely different from the last. A 12V part could bolt to a CR or even the 6.7 and vice versa. I have 6.7 parts on my 24v. I love my Cummins and I will drive them both til I die.
Ya ive been looking at 05 and 06s but it looks like im going to look for a 06 and newer since ive heard the 06 has 6 gears versus 4 in the 05s

Negative on the 6 speed autos in 2006 they didn't come out with a 6 speed auto until 07.5 which is a 68rfe.

Have you already done an EGR delete on your 6.0?

Every engine has its problems, just most of them not as severe as those of the 6.0s. I personally think Dodges, at least in interiors and suspension, fall behind GM and Ford, but they have the Cummins goin for them, and good standard trannys.

the 12v's had the least problems of any of them, just the KDP, the 2nd gen 24v's had lift pump/VP44 failures, and a few of the 3rd gen 5.9 CR's had injectors problems. Not sure of the years on the injector failures, but it can be an expensive fix. And if you get a 6.7, the first thing I would do is DPF/EGR deletes.

So Im guessin you're lookin for an auto tranny?

I bought my 6.0 and it ended up having a blown headgaskest and some other stuff wrong with it. so we put a rebuilt jasper engine in it and this jasper engine has been nothing but problems its still the 6.0 its in the shop every 4 to 6 months for injectors egr valve cac hoses and other expensive stuff. and no i dont have an egr delete. its been a nightmare. thats why im looking into getting a dodge diesel.
