Default 2012

I own a truck but my father does not like his 2009 Chevy Dmax, he came from a 2001 Cummins HO. He is asking me which truck, Dodge/Chevy/Ford is best stock vs stock for towing and daily driving. I suggest to just modify the 09 Chevy but he doesn't want to risk the emission laws.

So which 2012 is best? I am Cummins Biased and I know most people are Biased but I also know every truck has its ups and downs, not by truck but by owner. Don't matter if you own all three brands, they can run 500k no problem or 30 miles and be in the shop.

Default Here's a thought.....

Not trying to be a smartass here but there is no way to answer your question. All of the manufacturers have done real world tests and strangely enough, they all come out ahead in their own testing. Depends on what metrics you use as to what the test will show. I've owned all of them at one time and for me, I drive a Dmax. I'm partial to the Cummins but they wrap it in a Dodge truck. All of them are good. It depends on what you like. A truck is a tool. Get the one you need to do the job and get the one you can afford. Make a decision and go with it. I've bought trucks before that after I bought them, just didn't like them. My mistake and there was nobody to blame. Asking which one is best will get you a lot of answers and none of them will be right for you. They are all good trucks or they wouldn't still be selling them today.
My opinion here anyway....

I think the easiest way to find out is to test drive one of each then compare them.

Good way to see what they are like inside, doesn't tell you anything about what they will do if you are pulling a trailer or have a specific purpose in mind. Most dealers don't have that kind of test drive available and it doesn't give you an insight into what the dealer is like for the most part. A good dealer is valuable when making a deal.

If you make a decision based only on what the government tells you, good chance you will not be happy. The government testing for fuel economy as I recall is not posted on one trucks and if it were it is not real world type testing. The numbers are not accurate and it is only a guideline as to what you might expect. Way too many variables to base a decision on that alone. As I said earlier, find the one you like and the one that does the job you need to have done and just go with it. Ain't no perfect truck for everybody. Get what you like and have a ball.
My thoughts here.
Stay safe out there.
