I got my donor truck, 96 with a 5 speed, for $2100. You can find higher mileage donor trucks for around $1500-$2500. Found a 95 with 140k miles on it but he wanted about $3k for it.

1. SAS conversion?

2. No sir. Im not about to hook up to a trailer, so Im not really too worried about too much stress being put on the frame. Everything on the truck is stock (heavier springs and shocks up front) and its holding together fine. If the rear end ever goes, Ill put a Ford 9" with upgraded spline and Detroit locker back there, or heck might just upgrade the 8.8

I've ne'er heard it called SAS but if I were a guessing type of guy I would say solid axle swap..... That's pretty much the solver to my torsion bar crossmember issue on the 2003 that I'm doing a cummins swap in ..... Just sayin a 2003 chummins with a Dana 60 swap ... Sounds pretty sick to me! Lol

i cant decide what i wana do. i already have a 3 inch body lift and 3 inch suspension lift so i dont know if i wana do a sas convertion, its alot of work. so im thinkin if i made higher mounts because i have a body lift then everything will clear. thats why i did the body lift. i think i am going to box in my frame too.

setting the motor and trans in is pretty easy and I don't have a ton of time in it as far as my part. T he guys who tore it all down probobly have atleast a good day in tear down, i got it as just a roller no dog house and the wiring nice and bundled up so my job was fairly easy setting the motor in. Ive probobly got more putting the motor in it and taking it back out more than anything . On the other hand i do have the frame, firewall, and everything up front nice and painted.....if you do want to paint it wait untill you have everything fitted first....the only reason i did this first was the fram was pretty bare and we knew it was going to be sitting outside while we took care of other projects.
as far as your lift goes i dont know if that will give you enough clearance still for the torsion bar cross member...IF you go with the dodge drive train. If I would've known about the prject befor ei had gotten ahold of it I would've told the guy to keep his allison and t-case becouse the guys at screamin seeman and everywhere else use the cummins/allison setup....I have yet to find anyone who has used a complete dodge drivetrain in the newer style chevy's ......the time is'nt too bad if your a hard worker, not saying its a fast or easy project, but it is a fun project (sometimes) other times it can be somewhat frustrating becouse there is no manual that you can go to to see what is next.
i think you will be fine if you take you time and do alot of good researce, try and follow some of the same things that people have already done it, even though you want a totally custom truck, it will make it for a much eaiser install.
