Default Would you buy this truck

I am looking at a 96 Dodge diesel with 270,000. I drove it a little today. The engine seems great.

It really touchy on the throttle and smokes like a bastard when you hog on it. He is running it without a fuel cam plate. How bad is this on the engine. Is it going to do much damage or is it just wasting fuel.

The price is $4500

It has had the tranny rebuilt with in the last 6 months as well.

I haven't owned one yet, but I have been wanting one forever.

Would you buy it.

4x4? no running without a plate wont hurt anything besides hot egts after a good run. Its wise to run some kind of plate on a street truck. Body in good shape? front end tight?

It is a 2 wheel drive dually.

The body is in decent shape.

What little I drove it the front end seemed OK, but I'll have a mech look at it since it's a dodge and those heavy *** engines beat down front ends so bad any way.

Unfortunately it is an automatic.

Never had a goose neck in it. So the loads were probably not too huge.

I would say 4500 is a little high for that many miles. I agree with Red Rattler, around here that a 3500-4000 dollar truck.

the only reason i would say it aint worth 4500 is cause its a 2 wheel drive. a buddy of mine was gonna buy a 98 12valve dually with over 500K on it for 3000 till he thought about it again.

plus i would try and find a 5 speed truck if thats what you want. dont settle
