Question cummins powerstroke duramax?

Hey im a new to the diesel world. So new I don't even have one. But I spend all my free time looking at diesels. Im looking to spend 12-20 k. And im kinda stuck Cus I have no idea what to buy. I want like a 06 somewhere round there something just newer then 2000. Ok this is my problem. I love fords. Great power great sound. But the 7.3 and the 6.0 are the only 2 in my price range. The 7.3 is a amazing engine but it lacks in power and the tranny (4R1000) is less then perfect. The 6.0 it's out pood power my friends dynoed at 550 hp 960 ftp. And in general is a good truck but I quoted the studs at about $4000, with parts and labor, durmaxs are great! Great power and look amazing. I love the sound of that turbo without the waste gate. But they have a common injector problem. Cummins, what can I say about them there engines are well bulletproof to say the least . And with a 4" straight pipe and tuner they sound like death is coming to us all! But my friend blew his tranny in his 03 cummins after a tuner and turbo upgrade. So I don't know what to get. All have pros and cons. But for that price range what truck should I get that will put down the most power. Be the most reliable and require the least upgrading after power is added. Im sure this thread will cause problems between all the ford chevy and dodge guys so please note that fords cars suck. Chevys frames are as strong as a twig and dodge has trannys of that that should be on a lawnmower

Only the first duramax engines had injector problems which was the LB7. They fixed the injector problem in later models. LB7 were from 2001 to early 2004.

Doesn't matter they all are good. The only one I would stay away from is the 6.0 but some people like them. Any one of the newer ones you can make big power fairly easy out of and still remain fairly reliable with. If it was me I would go with the DMax first then the Cummins not so much for the engine but I like Chevy trucks better and thats really the only reason.

i hate dodge trucks. all in personal preferance. dont get me wrong i have no problem with cummins but wouldn't want the truck its in. i'd say chevy or ford i have no reason to pick one over the other and i'm a ford guy but as you can see i'd still park a duramax in my driveway

I really like the chevys, but from the flexing ive seen with them in the bush and their IFS, i wouldn't own one.

alot depends on what ur gonna do with it. i just got rid of my dodge due to a financial situation and got a ford 7.3l and i wish i would have never sold my dodge, the ford is a pooch from hell compared to my dodge. needless to say im selling the ford because i tow heavy and this truck cant do it, i drove my buddies 06 chevy the other day and i agree with ya it felt like the frame was flexing and its *** hit the ground the minute i hooked up to my trailer. the ford suspension handles it better than my dodge but motor wise no comparision. i would find a 99-03 ford superduty and drop a cummins in it then u got yourself a truck.
