First vehicle ever just happens to be a truck!
Hi all, first post here I'm not that great with intros so nice meeting you all
Anyway besides the fact that I'm looking at a truck that isn't a diesel (yet) I am wondering what you guys think of it. The person that I am buying it off of lives about 350k from me but he is quite easy to get a hold of. So far all that I know about the truck is that it might have been an old province highway truck in Ontario, used the use propane but current owner converted it back to gasoline. Also head gaskets gave but have been replaced after they gave but the owner has also changed the transmission from a 3 speed auto to an 4 speed automatic.. But one thing that he told me was that he lent the truck to a friend who fueled up with diesel instead of gasoline but it was towed back home then the fuel tank was drained but now it has slight sputtering when it starts up in cold weather so um what do you guys think.... its a Chevrolet 2500 C/K dual cab also, Ill have more pics posted as I get them.
Btw yes I saw tacozilla's truck and loved what he has done to his but I sure that I should be able to make mine even better XDD
Any way here are the pics
Thanks for looking

If it is only $400 I would go for it. Other than that I would run away!
That thing is on it's last legs. Not even worth spending a bunch of money on. That rust is bad. I would save yer pennies and look for a good ol first gen cummins. I just did a quick search while reading this and found a few back east for about $1200 all running trucks.
I do love those ol GMC Sierra Classics though. That is just like the truck I learned to drive in!

Just my opinion, but the only way I would take that truck would be if it were free and I needed it for a parts truck. From the looks of it, it would be questionable as a parts truck too. I would pass and keep looking for something in better shape.
Good luck with your search, you'll find something eventually.

Hey guys sorry for being AWOL, but thank you all for the replies, and DieselCrawler that's just way to awsome to not be made into a sig...
Alright, so here is what’s happened - I’ve given up on getting the rust bucket and now I’m looking at:
It’s a dually, ‘96 Chevy 3500, automatic, 22k, with a 6.5 turbo diesel in it. However, the turbo blew and more than likely threw shrapnel into the engine so the guy is selling it for $1500. He doesn't know how bad it is, says that he parked it right after it happened but I am finding it hard to believe that he turned the engine off in time before any terrible damage was done... Anyways I’m going to have it towed near where I live then have then engine taken apart to see what the damage actually is.
But now here is the thing; I’ve been reading around and people are always recommending Cummins, and since I’m not too fluent with jibba jabba in the garage I’m lost as to what I should be looking for. To keep it simple it’s going to be a daily driver, I more than likely will not be towing anything more than an tent trailer or possibly people stuck during the winter, and there will be quite a few road trips done with this truck (I love to drive) so what would you guys recommend?? Should I possibly get this 6.5 turbo diesel rebuilt, or I have also found a 24V Cummins that's missing a few parts Kijiji link Yet again I am lost to if that is a good deal or not, sorry for being a thorn but I am trying to pick up as much as I can living in a house that loves imports....

Thats a big job to fix that cummins - possibly needs a teardown. Its also missing the injector pump which is another $1100+...turbo is at least $300 for a stocker, exhaust manifold is another $100. It would be $$ to swap it into the Chevy as well.
Im going to be blunt here and I know its probably not what you want to hear. If you are on a limited buget (which you seem to be) find yourself a toyota or a honda and drive it until you save up enough money to buy a good truck.
Diesels are expensive to fix and if its always broke or nickle and dimeing you to death it will be very frustrating

The good Dr. makes some good points. I didn't get what I wanted right off the bat. I had to work at it. I know at the time it seems a daunting task, but that drive will eventually get you to where you want to be. I kind of vote for you to find something cheap for the time being, one the flip side.....if you do get a diesel I'm ok with that.....mostly because it's your life and money and no matter what you choose it has no adverse effect on me. So, good luck on finding something RELIABLE and drive the wheels off of it!

Re: First vehicle ever just happens to be a truck!
Thank you for the quick replies! You know what I totally appreciate the honesty and concern from the two of you, but maybe a little hind sight about myself might rid of these concerns.
I just recently began working again at a job that I have done for a little too long for my liking, but the people are great and if I needed to I could easily double my paycheque.
Now about these two clunkers, absolutly without a doubt I do not wish to be spending something that will be out of my league, for a full truck that when I get working I will have all thses spare parts laying around that I will not have a clue what to do with, so with that and also the lack of space I am left with limiting myself to finding a body to give it life once again. But like I have stated previously, I am just way too new at this to take a look and come up with a ballpark range of how badly this build is going to kick my ***, so this is mostly why I have came here .
My father used to be a mechanic long long ago when I was young but still maintains relationships with people who own their own shops, so not only do I get a slight discount, but I also get hands in on all this. Hell if anything this might be cheaper than my current gasoline daily driver.... '93 topaz, 166k, cracked winshield, slipping tranny, been in 3 accidents (prior to me owning it), huge leak in trunk, exhaust just dropped out on me the other day, burns oil.... sounds like *** but I'm having trouble killing it....
