Default My D-Max vs 2008 Power Stroke

So...I have a 2007 GMC Sierra with the "Classic" body style and an LBZ Duramax/Allison tranny. Great truck.

The problem is that my wife and are looking at relocating to a place with heavy snow, where a 4x4 would be more useful than a 2WD truck. The local dealership has two 2008 Ford 4x4's with 6.4L Power Strokes; one an F250 crew cab (or whatever Ford calls their four-door models) and one an F350 dually. Both have automatic trannies and look very clean and well cared for.

How do those trucks compare to a Duramax/Allison combo? I already looked up the HP and torque numbers, and they're comparable. What about reliability?

Your LBZ in stock form will be a little quicker & get better MPG, cause the FORD will be heavier, stronger chassis. My 6.4 has 28,600 miles & never been back to the dealer

The 5R110 is one tough SOB, stronger than the allison and can hold a lot more power without needing modification.

Okay; I guess I can rule out the dually. Just out of curiosity, how would a 2WD Duramax handle in the snow?

This is also a bump for more info on the 6.4L PSD's reliability.

Depends on how much snow, I rarely put my truck in 4wd around town with lots of snow. The 6.4 is a monster, seems to take a pretty good beating and make good power with very little mods. Honestly, after tuning and driving one for a couple days it made me want to trade my Dmax in on one but I just couldn't bring myself to drive a ford.

2wd will be fine for the most part, but 4wd is a lot nicer, in deep snow you're not going anywhere, on ice 2wd can be fine, but if there's more than a foot of snow don't plan on getting anywhere to fast or anywhere in general

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

remember you have around a 1000lb engine up front on these things and that doesn't help traction on the ice or snow

2wd's are useless in the snow and ice. Stay away from a dually, I have been driving them for the last 12 years and there a little scary in the slick stuff.
